In 2003 we celebrated the 30th anniversary of the ARPAnet coming to UCL. I gave my inaugural lecture as professor and Vint Cerf and Bob Kahl were awarded the Foundation of UCL. Afterwards Jeremy attended the dinner in his box. I don't know how often he came to dinner, but he didn't seem hungry.

Yesterday was a good day for the UK power grid - managed more than 90% low carbon sources for most of the day.

Finding the right question to ask is 70% of research I think. It's really hard. A key failure mode of research is not to continuously doubt if you're asking the right question. Very few of my research projects end up answering the original question on the proposal; we learned along the way.

Often you try something, and it simply doesn't work. It wouldn't be research if it always worked. Sometimes you're really happy with something and it gets rejected - happens often to me. That's when you have to believe in the people around you with more experience who still believe in the work.

Right now #wind is meeting 50% of the National Grid's electricity demand. https://winderful.uk

As the #measles outbreak continues, and has now unfortunately resulted in the death of a child, I see a lot of posts along the lines of: "I had measles as a child and I'm fine". Let me tell you a different version of that story:

I'm deaf in one ear because I caught mumps in school 45 years ago. I've had terrible tinnitus my whole adult life. How easily we forget that these diseases are not mild. Needless to say, my kids got vaccinated.
