Still from the 1941 film "Love on the Dole", with the unfortunate subtitle "She's a strange lassie's arsehole".
Catastrophic subtitling on the 1941 movie "Love on the Dole".
(It should read "She's a strange lass, is our Sal"...)

The black liner of the litter bin outside the Costcutter has blown inside-out in the wind and is flapping about inflated like a smaller, less cocksure, ketchup-stained version of the promotional ‘air-dancers’ they used to have outside the Fiat garage when it was a Peugeot one.

Gaza: BBC's Jeremy Bowen goes onboard a plane dropping aid
The BBC's international editor was on a Jordanian flight as it dropped supplies into Gaza.
"The Israelis don't want us to film out of the window at the devastation inside Gaza. But I've spent 10 mins looking at it with my own eyes and I can tell you communities in the north of Gaza, that I knew well, are flat. There's nothing left of them."

It’s just such a bizarre thing, isn’t it? There’s so much to unpack. If we could get to the bottom of what motivates this I reckon we’d answer so many more questions besides

Googling the etymology of the word Bugger (easy) and the results are illustrated with photographs of Burgers. I don't know, just thought it might be of interest

Anyway, I'm off to watch these on iPlayer. Not seen them since they were on the telly in the early 90s. Hope they're as good as I remember

Royal Mail given go-ahead to scrap second-class post on Saturdays
Regulator Ofcom says fewer second class deliveries will help Royal Mail cut costs.
1) Privatise a public service.
2) Scrap the rules concerning what that service is required to deliver.
3) Chalk it up to a successful privatisation.
4) Repeat.

Turning RM into a parcel courier. 1st class mail price increases mean that few people use it anymore - I’ve probs not got more than a dozen to deliver today. So this ruling, in effect, reduces ALL mail deliveries to every other day. All anyone cares about now are parcel contracts: Amazon, Boots etc
