Alberta’s Smith says courts should not be gatekeepers on constitutional questions Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says those seeking an independence referendum should not have “gatekeepers,” like the courts, standing in their way.

Of course the courts should be the ones to adjudicate constitutional issues. That’s the whole point of the rule of law, the cornerstone of government. You can’t trust government or popular opinion to determine or safeguard fundamental rights. #cdnpoli www.ctvnews.ca/edmonton/art...

One thing that’s pretty clear about spending any length of time around these people is that they do not accept or even really comprehend ‘constitutional government’ as liberals understand it.

Interestingly, those with household incomes of $100,000 or more were the most likely (40%) to say they’ve intentionally taken an item without scanning it. Just 17% of those making less than $30,000 said the same.

Not, like, try to improve people's self esteem and sense of what is going on.

Althia Raj: Mark Carney is quietly giving sweeping new powers to his ministers Sneaking a change of this magnitude into a 600-page bill that will not get parliamentary scrutiny raises a red flag, Althia Raj writes.

Giving ministers the power to exempt pet projects from any law on the books except for the Criminal Code isn’t nation-building. It’s a disaster waiting to happen.
The fact that they‘re trying to sneak this through without any explanation is particularly incriminating.

I think that the serious/performative distinction has broken down completely in the postmodern right. Killing people is performance, making up crypto charter cities is 100% serious even if they don't expect them to ever happen. It's an entirely different type of sanity.

My dad abhors any negative comments about immigrants. Asked him recently why he’s so strong on it: ‘Because we’re always happy to take the rich and clever ones. Which means it’s not about disliking immigrants. It’s about disliking the poor and vulnerable. And that’s a bad human instinct.’

“In the new year, we’ll be launching our guide for GPs to help with the diagnosis, management, and treatment of Long Covid.”

This is good, it’s badly needed in NZ.

IMO this piece could’ve been stronger in its recs for prevention & more inclusive of other LC conditions, but I’m happy to see it.

Today is Canada's National Day of Action & Remembrance on Violence against Women. It marks the day in 1989 when 14 women at Polytechnique in Montreal were murdered by an "incel" (Proving that shit has a new name but is an old problem.)

There are vigils across the country today. Please attend one.
