The computer museum next door has a fully functioning rebuilt Colossus. Incredible to witness.

Bin bags/glad wrap and skin tape (might need to hit a chemist for the tape) and/or just sponge bath until the cast is swapped.

Also you may need to hound the fracture clinic (which you hopefully already had a proper referral for) otherwise that cast is gonna be on for a while

The harms I list that fawners miss I read out like a canticle
It steals our data and our art but claims the theft’s defensible
Investment in the slop machine remains, for me, nonsensical 🎢

Apropos of nothing: now would be a real cool time for the CNCF to realize that North America includes both Mexico and Canada and decide that KubeCon NA can be somewhere other than the US

Just a thought

Instead of trying to green cars so much why don't we just invest in trains. city trains. under ground trains. above ground trains. trains between cities. trains between countries. TRAINS

THE PEOPLE CRAVE TRAINS

More Than DNS: The 14 hour AWS us-east-1 outage A thorough review of a major cloud outage.

thundergolfer.com/blog/aws-us-... I think is a much better outage summary than the one that AWS published. I understand the time pressure AWS was under to get something out, but I found the initial report to be quite baroque and hard to comprehend.

πŸ“£THREAD: It’s surprising to me that so many people were surprised to learn that Signal runs partly on AWS (something we can do because we use encryption to make sure no one but you–not AWS, not Signal, not anyone–can access your comms).

It’s also concerning. 1/

It’s been interesting seeing so many people say β€œthis is why we don’t deploy in that region” - I don’t know if they’re lucky, or if they’re ignorant of the way this incident could affect people running outside the region…

As someone who’s never run compute in AWS for production, it’s surprising to an outsider that even this many years after other historic global failures there still seems to be internal dependencies on SPOFs in that region. Not to say other hyperscalers are any better, of course.
