This weekend has been quite pretty.

06.03.2025 06:02 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Sunset over crocuses.
06.03.2025 05:49 — 👍 12 🔁 1 💬 0 📌 0I’m rewatching the Handmaids tale, and I noticed Aunt Lydia’s brooch looked familiar.
25.02.2025 06:32 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Yup 😐
08.02.2025 19:01 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I had a suggestion today from the Insta algorithm. It was a certain Hatie Kopkins. Turns out 48 of my 10k followers follow her, some even posting things along the lines of “you tell it like it is”. To be clear. Unless I feel like you’re following for pure irony, you’re already blocked.
06.02.2025 08:21 — 👍 3 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I’m not explaining myself well. It’s that the existing windows are screwed into the frame that is also supporting the shutters. It’s the frame that needs to come out.
05.02.2025 16:21 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Does that help?
05.02.2025 14:02 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0It’s because of the way they’re screwed into the frames, but the frames themselves are in less than great condition. These aren’t wall mounted shutters, our windows are recessed by about a foot from the external wall and the shutters fold in almost flush to the window. Hard to explain.
05.02.2025 14:00 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 0Thankyou! Ours are manual thankfully because we’re no stranger to a power cut. 😂
05.02.2025 13:56 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0That’s the answer I needed! 😀. Thankyou. I might not be able to afford to replace the windows now but at least I know!
05.02.2025 13:45 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Thankyou. If they had to come down for the window installation I wouldn’t be looking to replace, that’s really my question. I’ve never had triple glazing so I don’t know how effective it is when faced with direct sun, or whether the shutters remain a must have.
05.02.2025 13:41 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0They would if they were beautiful old wooden shutters, sadly they’re industrial style metal louvred shutters. They fold back to the inside of the window so only really visible when closed. I don’t want to take them down given the choice, but just trying to understand if keeping them is affordable.
05.02.2025 13:26 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Yes I still need the shutters? The heat is most definitely coming through our old single glazing currently, the walls are super thick stone. We’re in the process of being quoted for new triple glazing and cheapest install is sans shutters so this is why I ask 🫤
05.02.2025 12:57 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Thanks. We have ancient traditional large french windows, single glazed, knackered frames. In the process of being quoted for new windows, but due to the way the shutters are fixed to the knackered old frames the cheapest option is to remove the shutters for an easier install. 🤷♀️
05.02.2025 12:54 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Question France dwellers! Anyone have triple glazed windows but still need to use shutters to keep out heat in summer? Do the windows keep out the heat by themselves?
05.02.2025 12:38 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 3 📌 0😂 good to know
03.02.2025 09:02 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Nice! 😀
03.02.2025 08:48 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Trying to do my bit for tariffs.
03.02.2025 08:34 — 👍 7 🔁 1 💬 1 📌 0I thought it was interesting. Nature does things for a reason. If you feed hens good food and try to keep them healthy and happy, it seems that benefits everyone.
02.02.2025 15:00 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Thankyou! Yes proud EU citizen and Yorkshirewoman here.
02.02.2025 14:57 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Been chatting with one of my US insta buddies about the cost of eggs, now often $8/doz. Great article here if you want to better understand how US and European egg production differs. Add in avian flu and a truck driver shortage (Brexit flashbacks anyone?).

Same. A friend of a friend argued with me about whether I could still vote for my village Maire, despite not living in France and knowing nothing about it. I’m a former procurement manager and the lack of understanding about tariffs is continuing to be a source of dark amusement.
01.02.2025 15:53 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I re-read the blog I wrote 5 years ago yesterday about Brexit. My feelings about it have not softened over time.

31.01.2025 08:29 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0And awake at 4.00am again. I dreamt I’d invented a revolutionary centrifuge that dried clothes in seconds with no heat and used little energy. Then I dreamt a microwave meal I’d bought said to cook for 32 minutes and was understandably inedible. What’s wrong with me 😂
