This a thousand times. The media (especially FOX) has convinced so many rural people that people in cities "look down on them" (they don't) that in fact the opposite is true. Criticize major cities (where most Americans actually live)? No problem. Criticize any small town or rural area? Big problem.

My main worry is not that Trump is doing this (although I am very concerned and worried he is doing this). My main worry is that the media will not adequately report exactly as you are saying (i.e, there is no emergency, and this is deploying force because he wants to).

Why don't you (and others) say what is really going on here. Namely, that most rural Americans, who routinely look down on urban people and think cities are crime-infested wastelands because of FOX (when rural crimes rates are actually higher), *love this* and want to see more of it?

If large number of the American people started supporting cannibalism, CNN would report it with a shrug and praise the "political instincts" of the politicians who recommended it.

I really wish people in DC would point and laugh at these people. Don't insult them, don't harass them, don't yell at them. Just point at them and laugh. Nothing bothers authoritarian thugs more than to be laughed at and ridiculed.

Jews, the victims of the biggest genocide of the 20th century, are now the perpetrators of the biggest genocide of the 21st. Holocaust victims are spinning in their graves.

Rural people across America will cheer this on. They *hate* people that live in cities, because they falsely believe urban people "look down on them" (in fact, the opposite is true). People living in urban areas should understand that rural people want this to happen all over the country.

Pritzker gets it and does this sort of thing better than any other Democrat in the country. He knows enough not to be nice and instead punches them in the face. More of this, please.

Why did we fight against the Nazi's after they invaded and took over Paris? After all, they "earned" it, right? We live in an idiocracy.

It's worth remembering that the majority of White women voters voted against Kamala Harris and for Donald Trump - a man (like Hegseth) with a history of misogyny and violence toward women.

We should all stop pretending that corporations have any interests above that of their company and shareholders. Profit means everything, and everything else is secondary. Tim Cook is a loser who would sell out American democracy in a heartbeat to make an extra buck. And lots of others are like him.

The millions of Jews who died at the hand of the Nazis in WWII would strongly disagree with you. As they should.

This is a logical consequence of when enough people continue to vote against their own interests. It will never change unless the voters change. If rural people want rural hospitals, they will have to start voting for politicians (Democrats) who support doing that. There is no other way.

One of the things the mainstream media refuses to report on is what an utter asshole you have to be to post this stuff and, even worse, defend it. I am so sick of Trump supporters being treated with kid gloves. Lots of them - millions - are genuinely awful people.

A big part of this is that Trump's base is non-college educated white people, who hate nothing more than educated "elites" who they think "look down on them." In fact, the opposite is true. There is nothing Trump supporters have more contempt for than higher education, especially elite higher ed.

Winning is indeed only the first step to doing something. But *not* winning means you don't even get to that first step.

True. Also true: Any politician would rather be considered a "bad politician" who wins elections rather than a "good politician" who loses them. Winning is what matters.

A big problem is that the major news network routinely report on violent crime, but seldom provide a context for that crime. So, a mass shooting occurs in a major city and that gets (appropriately) reported, but what does *not* get reported is that violent crime in that city has decreased overall.

Sigh. The clear implications of the original comment made by Nixon was that being a bully made you a bad politician. That's what I responded to. Of course bullies can be successful - as both Trump and Cuomo have proven - that's the point!
08.08.2025 14:19 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 0
Yes, of course, but I wasn't talking about that. My point was that it is comical to suggest that bullies can't be successful politicians. They can, if enough losers vote for them, not in spite of that bullying but because of it.

Republicans think their voters are stupid and all too often they get rewarded by their voters for having that belief.

I don't understand why Democrats don't go after Republicans about their continued support of Confederate monuments. They were traitors to America who fought to enslave people. Here's a question every Democrat should ask every Republican: Which side would you have fought for in the Civil War and why?

Do you know what country you live in? Donald Trump is a far bigger bully than Cuomo ever was and was twice elected president of the United States.

I love that piece and read it again every few years (I own the copies of TZ in which they first appeared, as a four-part series across 4 issues). It's probably my favorite non-fiction piece on horror tales and writers, along with Jack Sullivan's book ELEGANT NIGHTMARES.

Me neither, but I'd bet my house most white people who live in, say, Alabama *are* proud of the confederacy and are sorry they lost the Civil War.

It is truly amazing that anyone in the military supports Trump. He got out of serving in Vietnam because his family name protected him, he has called soldiers who died for their country "losers" and "suckers," and he compares himself to Purple Heart recipients. Trump despises people who serve.

You only get a "contemptible and cringe-inducing clown" (which Vance is) if you have enough contemptible fools to vote for them. Ohio obviously has lots of them.
