Thank you, this is awesome. I particularly like the suggestion to place specific downtime missions in the beginning of a campaign.
Towards the end of the article, you mention the may need to be tweaked for west marches play. What pain points do you see with your approach in a west marches system?
Once again Between Two Cairns has prompted me to buy an OSR RPG book.
The Valley of Flowers has some stellar writing. I can't wait to run this!

Instant buy with this positive of a review. I couldn't find online, but do guys know what the plans are for future volumes of Wildendrem?

Truth elementals: little invisible guys attracted to honesty. When you feel a brush against your body with no discernible source, it might be a truth elemental running into you after something honest was said or done near you.
30.03.2024 13:55 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I backed the Kickstarter for #SurvivingStrangehollow after listening to @artbyemilyhare.bsky.social and @dailydael.bsky.social talk about the dangerous, magical nature of #Stangehollow. My TTRPG attention is easily distracted, but I now want to run something like #ScavengersReign in this world.
30.03.2024 06:41 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0This may have been one of the more critical reviews I've heard you guys give, but it made me feel like buying it, because it sounded inspirational and modular. I also bought Impossible Landscapes, because it got mentioned during the show. Both are getting chucked into Curse of Strahd.
30.03.2024 00:15 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0It didn't, which I found surprising. Each turn, they could move and do a thing. Which sounds like combat, but both the system and me were loose enough with it, that it gave a good spread of spotlight to players. Shadowdark also has the 1 hour torch timer, which could offset any slowdown.

29.03.2024 23:08 — 👍 3 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0I made a video about hooking your players on your campaign. Could be #dnd or any other long-form #TTRPG.

3.5e was my gateway. It definitely shaped the way that I perceive the rules -- I have trouble ignoring them.
25.03.2024 15:43 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I ran #Shadowdark for the first time. Some things I noticed:
1. It's easier to introduce new players to #TTRPGs than with 5e #dnd
2. Always being in initiative makes for a smooth transition to combat
3. Not as lethal as I thought, because not every encounter with a monster was a fight
I created a video about how we can feel happier playing tabletop roleplaying games

New Thursday, new video. In this one, I explore a vague and modular approach to Session 0, omw that you can customize to best fit the needs of your table.

Because I'm not on the bad site, can somebody tell me if @benriggs.bsky.social posted anything about why the plot points podcast is "going dark?" Hope he's doing alright, I know he got a lot of bad press with the "golden age" thing. #dnd
03.03.2024 23:51 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0That's great! How often does your group play? That can be a factor too ofc.
01.03.2024 17:08 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Sounds like they don't see it as a problem. Do you see it as a problem?
01.03.2024 14:31 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0That sounds very very fun. You could take inspiration from Lost, where the elves are "the others"
01.03.2024 05:44 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0It's ironic because the design ethos, which as you mentioned, is antithetical to the osr's ethos. But then the, osr started because people remembered the way they used to play and wanted to bring that play style back, iirc

A problem that I see sometimes in tabletop RPGs is campaign bloat. Adding so much to your game that a year long campaign turns into a three year campaign. Does anyone else's campaign suffer from this? #ttrpg #dnd #osr
