Thinking about languages this way emphasizes how important it is for extra languages (whether chosen or random) to fit the campaign.

Being able to speak kobold and read the warning signs they graffiti next to their traps is awesome.

In HIS MAJESTY THE WORM, every PC speaks 2 languages. This is to let everyone speak to each other and also with some weird NPC. The upcoming dungeon Castle Automatic leverages this to make sure every PC has a chance to take the lead on some social interactions. It's a way to share the spotlight.

The last chapter, where he's just walking through the city, taking it all in, is especially dreamlike, I thought.
