@bsky.app Can we please get the upside down smiley face in the emojis? How am I supposed to communicate my millennial angst without it?

Thanks

No one has destroyed my confidence more than my 6 year old daughter. She is now a teen and it has not improved. πŸ‘

Definitely. I recently create a futuristic fantasy version of the city I live in and it was incredibly fun to build another version of somewhere you have come to know so well.

As a writer, I was inspired by authors like Robert J Sawyer, who based (some of) their writing in Canada. Its so much easier to connect with the story and I hope that I give the towns that I love their chance to be seen for the wonderfully interesting places they are.

Second draft done for my YA novel. A huge improvement over my first draft in every way. Now to let it simmer while I contemplate my next project.

As a kid, dystopian sci-fi was my favorite genre. I read The Giver, but the sequels didn't exist yet. Reading them now for the first time over break.

There should be a word for the UTTER RELIEF you feel when you find out, decades later, that Jonas' sled was REAL and not a deathbed hallucination 😭😭😭

Until I got my ADHD meds figured out, all I could do was think about my story for over a decade. But this past summer, the stars aligned, and 1 month later my words are down on paper. I just couldn't let it go.

When it comes to writing a novel, you have to be obsessed with it. Think about the thing you're most into right now. If you aren't at least that locked into thinking about your book, you're not going to make it. It must consume your whole being. Full stop.

Moving Mars by Greg Bear broke me when I first read it. The idea of understanding the universe, peeking behind the curtain, and realizing that possibility will only be fiction in my life time (if ever) was enough to send me into an existential crisis.

Still 10/10

Despite working in an increasingly digital world, I always print and read the hard copy of a "final" manuscript draft before submitting. I find that my eye catches issues better on paper than it does on a computer screen.

Maybe I'm just πŸ‘΅

I always do this as well and read it aloud. I find its even better if you can read it aloud to someone else. I end up catching so many mistakes that flew by me the half dozen times I read it through on my own.

Finished the second draft of my book. Is it better than the first? Only an experienced editor would know for sure. In any case, I did it!
