During July’s Sit Spot i noticed the dappled light. Birds playing among the tree branches. Falling leaves floating slowly as gravity pulled them to the forest floor. Tree tops gently swaying. The feel of air between my fingers. Shifting light as clouds filtered the sun’s rays. πŸŒ²πŸ’š

June Sit Spot was met with a chorus of birds and ended with Douglas fir and Rosehip tea.

I’ll be hosting the next one on Sat., July 12th in Pacific Spirit Park. It’s free, it’s relaxing and it’s a nice way to connect with others that need a break. πŸŒ²πŸ’š

I recall many conversations with NASA JPL staff that said near earth exploration and mining made a lot more sense than Mars. And Elon’s daughter Vivian said it’s just a marketing stunt for funding.

I was nervous about chaperoning 130 high school kids at camp. They were awesome. The camp was awesome. Steve the Seal was awesome.

Fun fact: when forest bathing was first proposed in the early 80s, it aimed to help city kids connect with nature and escape the urban desert. πŸŒ²πŸ’š

If you’re feeling stressed about [insert list] and need an escape, this retreat in beautiful BC, Canada is designed to help you feel better. Ken trained me in forest therapy, and I guarantee you’ll feel completely relaxed afterwards. Also, there are miniature goats. www.natureconnected.ca/bcretreat

How to speak to a vaccine sceptic: research reveals what works Hesitancy about vaccinations is on the rise, but studies show there are specific ways to address people's questions.

Strategies to talk about vaccines with your community (not internet randos πŸ˜‰) via @nature.com:

- Don't dismiss concerns.
- Share reliable info that addresses specific worries.
- Most hesitant individuals aren't anti-vaxxers; sharing personal vax experiences can help.

Understanding and respecting the resilience of urban animals, such as coyotes and raccoons, can help us reconnect with ourselves, nature, and our community.

To celebrate #GlobalBigDay, we will sit quietly in nature to listen to birds. Last year, I identified over 20 birds with eBird in the same spot, so I’m excited to see which birds greet us this time.

The big take home message: more resistance training helps increase blood flow within muscle, helping to reduce blood glucose levels and reduce insulin resistance.

Time to lift some weights.

The nests were most likely to be found in stems collected during the spring.

The only time it is safe to cut a stem back to ensure you are not endangering bee nests is during the winter.

More people are planting gardens to support local pollinators, but often those gardens look a bit scraggly in the fall and winter. So how can we keep them looking nice while still supporting pollinators?
