The importance of these grants—and the critical role they play in empowering individuals to pursue innovative research—has never been more apparent. Many dance researchers are facing challenges, with cuts to dance programs in Higher Education impacting their work.

Named after Ivor Guest (1929-2018), whose work on ballet history transformed the study of dance, these grants are open to all, with a special focus on encouraging applications from underrepresented groups.

Thanks to Ivor Guest’s bequest, we have supported 19 projects over four years.

The Society for Dance Research is dedicated to advancing the study, education, and appreciation of dance in all its forms. In line with our mission, we offer financial support to artist practitioners, and early-career and established researchers through our Ivor Guest Research Grants.

I've worked in dance my whole life and think it is sadly one of the world's best kept secrets. Once a person has experienced the joy of dancing, they won't want to let it go! So we need to get the word out there about how people can get involved and get moving.
