Yes! I've worked in corrections and with many folks on probation and the rehab/therapy efforts are ALSO draconian. 50+ years behind the research (not that it was implemented based on research to begin with). The curriculums are laughable. No trauma training almost at all.

Yes! And the curriculums and therapy in corrections really needs to be overhauled too. The programs I've seen have all been very behavior heavy and almost no trauma intervention training. Which is wild when many offenders are products of a broken system to begin with.

I so agree with this. I think many people would feel better about pressing charges and holding people accountable, especially for sex crimes, if the system was more rehabilitative. People deserve a chance to change, even if some won't choose it.

If you think you don't know a victim of SA, you're wrong. You're just not safe enough to tell.

Release ALL the files and prosecute them.

This seems intentional. If there is precedence for adult competency in one situation, then it's grounds to justify maturity to consent in other situations.

Abusers are good at making the victim believe they are guilty too. It may be with grooming, threatening a pet or loved one to gain compliance, or coercing them to invite others.

Most perps are good at selecting victims who are isolated, knowing the victim will continue to internalize the shame.

It's devastating that the thing that helped them survive also became the very tool that pushed them to become complicit in suppressing the truth.

But this isn't just by chance.

I think the reason so many people can't come to grips with how common SA is, is because they HAVE experienced it and had to learn to bury it to survive.

Many family members, friends, professionals, etc. struggle to stand with victims, because it would require them to face their own abuse.

In October, ICE grabbed Maher Tarabishi.

He was a 24/7 caregiver for his disabled son Wael.

At the time of Maher’s detention, disability advocates warned that taking away Wael’s caregiver put his life at risk.
