I for one am so glad you're here. I'm getting really tired of Meta's stranglehold on data and glad for alternative places to follow my favorite creators.

My mom just offered to buy me 1 for my birthday. I AM insulin resistant, but have been tracking/treating it for years with an endocrinologist. Also, a glucose tracker would have limited benefit since I'm not diabetic, but she bought 1 for herself (with no diagnosis) and decided that I need 1 too...🤦🏼‍♀️

This is one big one for me too! Even here in Germany where I moved 10ish years ago, stores that have always carried plus sizes suddenly redefined where their plus size section starts (2 sizes lower) and started carrying less plus size options in store. I've also noticed it online.

Interestingly, I took the SAT and the ACT (as someone with privilege and inherently good at test taking) and I scored way higher on the SAT (equivalency) than the ACT and even higher the year before on my PSAT. It's all arbitrary and stupid and that's my professional opinion as a teacher.

It's almost like standardized tests are a bad way to measure how much people know...

(It is, by the way. Teachers have known this for decades, but no one cares what teachers have to say about things like this. They're just teachers. 🙄🙄🙄)

There are some popular American swing tunes that pronounce the German "schön" as "shane" and it's so outrageous now that I know German I can hardly stand it. I used to love those songs. 🤣😅

I would say that that response is in keeping with the magical fantasy aspect. Like, whether you believe it's good magic or evil magic most people I've talked to have a hard time believing it at all and especially believing it can exist in the US since it's so far removed from our current experience.

It goes the other way too. Explaining German policies to Americans sounds like a magical fantasy land... (And I know the German system is far from perfect...)

I finally made the switch to duck duck go. I'm tired of all the sponsored content on Google and AI was the final straw. Honestly the search engine is slightly worse and requires more careful input, but I don't care at this point. I replaced the widget on my phone and everything.

There are lots of types of pancakes. The ones I ate most growing up were what my family called "swedish pancakes" (which are basically Plinse) and a flattish, whole wheat family recipe pancake. We almost never ate buttermilk pancakes.

She gives people the benefit of the doubt AND she knows how (or at least learns how) to draw a line in the sand and stand up for herself and others. That's my take at least.

I love this take. I always find Anne such an inspirational character because she manages to be gentle AND powerful (at least in her own sphere). People are drawn to her kindness.

I think it's actually pretty likely that a lot of this doesn't come from actually neurodivergent people but is instead being used as a buzzword for engagement... Any and all ways, there is a LOT of misinformation out here about what neurodivergence actually is and is not.

We worked for months with USAID to build an $85,000,000 project to end TB in two regions of the Philippines.

The project is funded by private money, the Philippine government, and matching USAID funds.

It could provide a blueprint for eliminating TB worldwide--except it's...not happening.

AI inherently wants to follow the rules, but art is inherently about pushing the limits.

My take is that we usually appreciate the way that artists push boundaries (the limits of the medium, the subject, societal norms, etc.) AI has a tendency to want to show us an average of "good art" which then feels soul-less to us.

At this point I would argue that capitalism as we're practicing it now is extremely unstable. Infinite growth is an inherently unstable model. The question is, will it end with policy change or revolution?
