From yesterday's game at my club. Black just played 26...d3 and thought he was winning. I believed him, played 27.Qd1 and lost a few moves later.
What did we both miss?

You cannot win a game after resigning. So, let's take the rook and hope for Bg6. The pin is not deadly, you still have a check with the rook on f2.

What is the best move for White according to Stockfish here?
I did not play it and it was not even on my list of candidate moves.

I still won my game by the way, but only thanks to a blunder from Black in an equal rook endgame.

I like to play Bc2 to attack the undefended rook on b1. For that the horsey has to go. So, let's eat that pawn on e5.

Black is an exchange down, but the White king is very weak. So, first candidate move to look at is 1...f5 with ideas like 2...Qg5.

But can I call it "the chess speaks for itself"?

Qe6 looks nice, but has a small problem. So, let's start with 1.h4 intending Qe6.

It is a nice move, but isn't Nb6 just losing a piece?

First candidates for me would be Ne5 or even start with a5, preventing Black to play this, but I don't like White's position. So maybe even Ne3 is an alternative.

I see a threat on a1, so let's start with a check with Nf6+. Black takes and then don't autopromote to a queen.

But aren't you underrated now?

I think in general there are a few rules in pawn endgames:
1) If possible, don't enter a pawn endgame. Too difficult. :)
2) Activate your king first. And prevent your opponent doing the same.
3) Leave the pawns where they are, so you have some reserve tempo later.

Take on f5, put the king on f4, Black has to put his king on f6 to defend the sitting duck, win with the queenside majority.

Why don't we start with Kh3 and only after ...f5 or ...h5 we play g4. That e4 pawn seems to be a sitting duck indeed.

I like 1.Qe4 and Black has some issues.

Yeah, that gives Black a clear advantage.
But according to the engine there is even a better (winning) alternative.
