11.01.2026 17:33 — 👍 45 🔁 6 💬 0 📌 1It’s worth a 5 minute walk west of the village car park in #Corbridge to see the Roman bridge stones which carried Dere Street over the river Tyne. The stones have been moved from their excavation site to better protect and display then.

“The canton of the Durotriges of Lendiniae”a building stone from #HadriansWall mentioning the British tribe of the Durotriges based around Dorset inscribed on a reused altar. These Civitas stones survive showing the tribes of Britain contributed to the rebuilding of the wall.

The stone is upside down indicating it was reused here when the building was divided into two. The tungrians came from the area which now covers east Belgium. #RIB3326 #hadrianswall #archaeology
