The barriers are down on the newly consolidated SW corner of Vindolanda fort which formed part of the 2019-2023 excavations #archaeology #HadriansWall

Sadly no it’s on private land and will be backfilled this week. Perhaps one day but this was our only chance to see this remarkable section

A section of #HadriansWall was excavated over the last 3 weeks to find the line of the wall and the site of Milecastle 76 at the western end of the wall. This remarkable section was exposed including a cut showing the early turf wall which was rebuilt in stone during the later 2nd century.

I called by the site of the next Uncovering Roman Carlisle dig which starts on the 26th October. It will possible to visit the site and chat to the team and take a tour. #HadriansWall #Carlisle #archaeology
