I was a Master Teacher back in the day but haven't engaged with CAS for years. Oxon haven't had a meeting for ages. I'd be happy to travel for a good one.
22.10.2025 17:18 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I remember the school drugs adviser telling us that people don't get addicted to substances, but the circumstances under which they take them. He took diamorphine (i.e. heroin) in hospital for a broken back and had no trouble stopping. Should we look for what causes kids to get addicted to phones?

Just stumbled across this explanation of machine learning by Simon Peyton Jones. It's really accessible, I'd really recommend it if you're interested.

There's an interesting map of GCSE Computer Science provision on this page. If you compare Warwickshire and Birmingham, the percentage of Warwickshire schools offering the GCSE is much higher, but the proportion of students actually taking it is higher in Birmingham.

Quick question: the 7+ grades look comparable to other subjects, to what extent is there evidence/do you think this is because enough schools still select for CS GCSE (even soft selection).

I was always taught that coding was writing code but programming was the whole process including problem analysis, design etc. The reason students struggle with the subject is so many resources focus on coding rather than programming.

Is $200m punitive to Tesla? I guess so if they get it every time Autopilot fails.
