I keep telling my girls “hold on, just a little more,”
but even I don’t know what we’re holding on to.
The tent is gone, the blankets are ruined,
and hope feels like something that drowned with us today.

The cold tonight is different.
It feels angry… like it wants to punish us.
My hands are numb, my daughters’ teeth won’t stop clattering,
and the rain keeps reminding us that even the sky has turned against Gaza.

I am in great distress. Three months after Majd's leg surgery, he fell again while trying to go to the bathroom alone. I am currently at the hospital with him; the doctors say some screws have shifted out of place.
