Broadway shows rarely play in cinemas. ‘Merrily We Roll Along’ could change that Prohibitive costs and an uncertain market have made filmed versions of Broadway shows a rarity in movie theaters. But new dynamics on Broadway and in Hollywood might change that.

The Netflix/WB merger is particularly acute for me, not just because of TCM but writing Welcome Boils and Ghouls, a WB. show. I've heard so many people share memories about WB in the late-'80s, early '90s. It was a place of collaboration and innovation, even when people didn't like each other.

As others have mentioned: buy physical WB titles (especially Warner Archive) stuff now! Remember when Disney bought the Fox library and the classic titles just stopped being released on disc? You'll be lucky to find anything classic on disc.

On the one hand: this is the only logical option. Netflix ain’t into linear TV. On the other hand: who the hell is buying Discovery Global?

Well, now that you mention it, I'm fucking terrified about this could mean for TCM.

Same! Netflix has no interest in linear TV. Sure, maybe TCM could go to Netflix but this is just a catalog acquisition from the sounds of things. TCM offers them nothing and it’s a brand they can’t use.

I can essentially see all of that getting nixed. Netflix is only interested in occasional Criterion releases and will prioritize their titles only.

Also, am I the only one concerned about what this means for TCM?

Outside of the theatrical issue the amount of physical stuff WB has collected in their warehouses that are probably gonna go up for auction kills me. So fucking demoralizing.

#AvatarFireandAsh is visually astounding but the script for this tries to do far too much. There’s little cohesion to what feels like 13 different plots. Oona Chaplin is great but there’s nothing to her character. And that ending will seem very familiar to people. Full review soon.
