Investing on your own is great in theory, for those that can. We were in that position until my husband broke his neck and couldn't continue in the job he had for decades. I'm grateful for CPP and now the survivor benefit as we could no longer take afford to invest.

After my husband died, I was amazed at how many stages there were, sometimes all on the same day. Sometimes all in the same hour! I found I couldn't fight them, I had to learn that the bad ones tended to leave faster than the good. It's not easy.

My Mum sent my Dad and I to buy a really nice Christmas album and this is what we bought. She was not amused, ha ha, but we thought we were brilliant.
