What proteins, feedstock, fermentation methods, etc., are they trying out to get a more meat-like texture, flavor, and cooking outcome? I know hemoglobin and myoglobin have been used for proteins, what else? Fats/lipids?

Here in Boston I got a heat pump four years ago, and I’m seeing similar good things. I’ve only used the gas boiler during extreme cold snaps. I got solar panels on my roof last May and the electricity they export to the grid in sunny months will be about equal to the amount I import overall

It Turns Out That When Waymos Are Stumped, They Get Intervention From Workers in the Philippines During a Congressional hearing, Waymo's chief safety officer, Mauricio PeΓ±a, was grilled over the company's reliance on overseas workers.

We've known for a while that Waymo has remote people in the loop (they were overwhelmed with "no green light" exec decisions during the Dec 20 SF power failure), but we did not know that many of them are in the Philippines--suggests a large scale contingent. futurism.com/advanced-tra...

For anyone concerned about this, consider working at your local neighborhood polling place for the elections

This is why I worked at a polling station (for the first time in my life) in my neighborhood for the election last November, and plan to do so for the primaries and main election this year

DOCTOR: I told him he needed to get out to a show, that was how he would cure his depression.

CHOTINER: So you learned this technique in school?

DR: No, notβ€” listen it was good advice. Pagliacci was in town.

C: Right. Is it standard to give advice before learning a patient’s name?

DR: Now look

Really can’t help thinking this is all a distraction from the Jack Smith testimony. Trump builds up a crisis, shifts over to sounding reasonable, by tomorrow afternoon will announce a resolution, just as the Smith testimony wraps up

I think the cause of our inability to do all this is not exceptionalism, but lack of trust in government by older, conservative voters, fueled by racial resentment

NEW: Coal-fired power generation fell in both China and India in 2025, for the first time since 1973. The drop came after record clean energy additions in both countries, and was the first time that clean energy was a major driver of falling coal power use.

β€œThe sunniest US city, Las Vegas, could get 98% of its power from solar+storage at a price of $104/MWh, which is higher than gas but cheaper than new coal or nuclear.”
