Last week, we got a report of ICE grabbing people off a @wmata.com bus in Silver Spring, terrifying the riders. Turns out i was metro cops in plain clothes, pulling people off for fare evasion. In a time when ICE is out there kidnapping people off streets, this kind of tactic is beyond fucked. 1/

ICE WATCH 101: DC BYSTANDER GUIDE 1. VERIFY THAT IT IS ICE • It is important that you try & verify that it's ICE. DC is uniquely overpoliced - apart from MPD, we have 30+ federal law enforcement agencies in the District. It can be difficult to tell them apart. • Look at their badges, arm patches, vests/ jackets, and cars. ICE vehicles can be marked as ICE or DHS. 2. DOCUMENT BUT DO NOT ENGAGE • Record the date, time, and location of the incident. Be as specitic as possible! • Take pictures and video. Try to capture pictures of the officers and their vehicles. Do NOT post the photos or video on social media. • Other relevant info to document: How many agents are there? What are they doing? • Do NOT engage. The changes that have been made all seem to relate to creating new paths to block payments and possibly leave less visibility into what has been blocked. I want to emphasize that the described changed are not being tested in a dev environment (i.e., not live) but have already been pushed into production. This is code that appears to be mainly the work of Elez who was first introduced to the system probably roughly a week ago and certainly not before the second Trump inauguration. The most recent information I have is that no payments have as yet been blocked and that the incumbent engineering team was able to convince Marko to push the code live to impact only a subset of the universe of payments the system controls. I have also heard no specific information about this access being used to drill down into the private financial or proprietary information of payment recipients, though it appears that the incumbent staff has only limited visibility into what Elez is doing with the access.

Beyond bonkers. (CNN) — Two top security officials at the US Agency for International Development were put on administrative leave Saturday night after refusing to allow officials from Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency to access systems at the agency, even after DOGE personnel threatened to call law enforcement, multiple sources familiar told CNN. According to sources, personnel from the Musk-created office physically tried to access the USAID headquarters in Washington, DC, and were stopped. The DOGE personnel demanded to be let in and threatened to call US Marshals to be allowed access, two of the sources said.

This is illegal. USAID is an independent agency that is funded by Congress and can not be dissolved by an Executive Order.
