The world’s crashing down around us. I had 4 hours of sleep and I suddenly had an idea for a painting to enter in a contest that’s due in 10 days.

Even if I miss the deadline I still want to make this

Leo’s maternal grandparents, Joseph and Louise Martinez, are listed as Black in a Census record from 1900. Joseph is recorded as a cigar maker born in “Hayti.” The Census record shows the couple as living in New Orleans’ 7th Ward, historically a melting pot of cultures in the Crescent City.

His grandfather is listed as coming from Haiti. He more than likely has African ancestry.

And there’s nothing wrong with that.

They probably want to scrape off “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free” off the Statue of Liberty 🗽

This past weekend I dropped off my #paintings at the Muskegon Museum of Art which houses #artwork by Edward Hopper, Kehinde Wiley, Mary Cassatt & more.

Each year they do a “Postcard Salon” a unique #artshow of 4x6 inch pieces which runs April 3-23, 2025.

I did a little research it’s by an Ann Arbor, #Michigan #artist named Larry Tucker. He was active in fandom conventions in the #70s and #80s and this Uncle Albert was a character he did in videos.
