Ice officers detain a Venezuelan man while working in Hibbing Several ICE officers detained Alvaro Villamizar, a Venezuelan man working for a non-profit on the Iron Range in Hibbing on Monday June 16th.

This happened over a month ago but it needs refreshed attention. A man with documents and legal entry notified DHS that he would self deport in August when his visa expired.

Ice arrested him 2 days later and he’s been in a detention center since.

Proud of this little patch of native prairie plants I grew (centered around the black-eyed susans) It’s definitely not much but it’s meant a lot to be able to discover new plants & insects everyday I visit it. Important to note two things:

Iron pyrite is actually fairly abundant in tailings piles and waste rock dumps.

And taconite has such a low concentration of iron, making it barely profitable to mine, that one else in the world mines it, except for on the iron range.

What hopefully is clear with this article is that the fight to protect Mn lake and rivers from sulfide pollution begins at the existing iron mines. Not just with proposed Cu-Ni mines. Enforcing statewide regulation is the only way to safe mining!

One of my favorite parts of the eras tour was how the lover era was represented. All the pink and purple clouds and fantasy elements reminded of a scene from the ispy books (remember those?)

I love the “sound” of Lover. All the synthy parts and the vocal harmonies give it an overall dreamy vibe that’s really cohesive. And the visuals she chose for the album art really match that too

It was a good, important change. We’ve evolved since the early 2000’s
