One of the game mechanics is that you request support (ammo, artillery strikes, etc.) from a ship in orbit by pressing the arrow keys in a specific sequence.

Definitely some of the choices in Silksong seem to be made with the intention of making the game harder just for the sake of it being hard. Nonsense with benches is another of them
