I got into VR in a big way last year, but full-body tracking entirely changed the experience. You just have so much presence when you can use your entire body to communicate! It lets me express myself in ways that would be way too awkward in person, but perfect for online. It's hard to explain!

Those upcoming SlimeVR Butterfly Trackers look sick. I've got Vive Ultimates for VRChat but the Slimes might be neat for VTubing since they don't require line of sight, and they'll finally have dedicated dongles instead of connecting via WiFi (my router is far away so current gen isn't an option)

You're always on borrowed time with F2P, and it's inevitable that they'll eventually either milk the user experience dry or shut down entirely. It's not just superficial communities that suffer, either. Entire livelihoods and careers are on the chopping blocks, it's pretty gross

i dont think one thing should replace discord, i think like three things at minimum should replace discord. it being an All-in-One app has ruined so many parts of online.

There's also the possibility of nuking mod/update/etc downloads via discord. Nobody wants to join a discord for a fan mod or even a corporate download! It's invasive and horrible for preservation and archiving. Even if it gets walked back, it leaves a bad taste and I hope it encourages fragmentation

And of course having multiple services instead of an all-encompassing app is inconvenient, but that could be a huge boon. Imagine a personal website with IRC + Forums. Dedicated and curated with multiple points of access for community interaction. It's work, but it's doable

I still talk to friends on Google Chat and Steam ffs. I remember in the JTV stream days, chat servers crashed and everyone added my steam ID en masse to have a group chat while I played Wind Waker lol.

Just one example, but there are alternatives, even if they aren't as convenient
