Tom Lehrer has passed away. A reason he once gave for retiring from performances was "Political satire became obsolete when Henry Kissinger was awarded the Nobel peace prize." How much things have changed yet stayed the same.

Lola is a big cuddler, loves going on runs less than 4 miles, loves cats (especially her bestie Theodore, enjoys meeting new people (but NOT dogs), and is an aspiring rabbit assassin (we are not in support of that goal). My iPhone says she is an English Pointer but I know she is 100% GOOD GIRL.

Miss Lola is 10 years old next week! I saw her soulful eyes in a picture on our local Humane Society website 6 years ago - we were her 4th family. She only needed some patience, exercise & anxiety meds for her to get to live her best life. We love her so so much πŸ’–πŸ’•πŸ’–

Here's when 'The Office' spinoff 'The Paper' will premiere: What to know The Dunder Mifflin documentary crew is heading to a newspaper in "The Office" spinoff "The Paper," coming to Peacock this fall.

Please let there be a Free Press vs the Blade-esque story arc. Regardless, very happy news. I hope Oscar Nunez loves it in Toledo.

When Trump & Vance berated Zelensky back in February for not being β€œgrateful enough,” I think it was pretty clear that the Trump administration was never really going to be on Ukraine’s side no matter what he said or did. They know Putin is a monster and they love it. This has all been for show.

Old Lady Cattitude survived another random health threat! Shout out to my veterinarians who saved her yet again. Her kidneys are operating at like 25% so when she started getting sick again I assumed it was that. Nope, severe E. Coli infection.

I ran 12.26 miles in the rain! I’m ready to go all the way for this upcoming HM. This was a practice race & I finished in last place. I really get a kick out of that (tho it used to embarrass me). Running is stupid and I love it so much.

Friends, I know you're excited to try protesting, but under no circumstances should you ever sign up to attend one. I'm suspicious of any org asking people to put their name on a list that is easily accessible via warrant or may even be public. You can just show up day of.

Electric heat & electric or induction ovens cost 5 times as much to operate versus natural gas. They can be more expensive to buy as well. You might need to upgrade your electrical service. It’s a big expense that like most folks, I can’t afford. Hopefully someday.

These unspent gases aren’t enough to kill you outright, but they do poison you over time, especially for folks with asthma. Having an actual kitchen exhaust hood that vents outdoors does help. Many homes & apartments don’t have that though.

03.04.2025 21:18 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

While natural gas in the US is still the cheapest way to cook & to heat your home, I recommend switching to electric appliances if you have the means. Even if you don’t have a leak, most gas appliances don’t actually completely burn up the fuel - unspent gases still leak into your home.

Friendly reminder to check that you have at least one carbon monoxide detector in your home. Change batteries every year & replace every 8 to 10 years. Natural gas doesn’t naturally have a smell, but it is usually added by your utility & smells like rotten eggs.

So much political discourse right now in the US is boiling down to "I didn't believe the bleeding person who told me the wolf at the door was dangerous to me. Because I thought the wolves only hunted them." And I don't know what people think can happen as long as that is still the conversation.

I saw a presentation yesterday where an β€œindustry expert” claimed we can expect a 9 to 15% increase to current inflation. That was BEFORE yesterday’s β€œLiberation Day” tariffs were announced, and were worse than expected. I have no idea if these numbers are correct, but it paints a scary picture.

Maybe everyone can see it now, but the world's richest people have tanked it all to restock assets and get liquid after years of illegally playing with funny money. They used "the wokeness" as a cudgel and it worked. The next Disney princess WILL be white, as we all eat beans under the highway.

In the US, criticism of the Israel government is grounds for deportation, without due process. We know it is only a matter of time before this extends to jailing US citizens as well. Progressive β€œpurity tests” are not the problem.

The only real β€œpurity test” I see nowadays is whether folks will admit/understand that the Israeli government is committing genocide against its Palestinian citizens. For those who disagree, criticism of the Israeli government = antisemitism.

Ohio’s goal is to kill public education, and they are becoming increasingly more successful in this effort. Many parents are having conversations now about whether it’s safer to move their families elsewhere. But how can we predict which state’s public education won’t fall next? It’s a big gamble.

My MIL was making light of a certain local school system’s plight, saying how great it was that citizens β€œcalled the school’s bluff” by voting down levy after levy. Illegally, both the federal & state government have been withholding funds the schools are owed. The levy failure compounds the issue.

Skadden Resignation
Today the executive partner of my former firm sent us all an
"update" that attempted to convince some of the best minds in the legal profession that he did us a solid by capitulating to the Trump administration's demands for fealty and protection money. Fellow Skadden attorneys: If you agree with Jeremy London's position that the firm should not engage in "illegal DEI discrimination," should devote prestigious Skadden Fellows to the Trump administration's pet projects, and should help "politically disenfranchised groups who have not historically received legal representation from major national law firms," (taking into account the robust pro bono work that major national law firms already do), then by all means continue working there. But if that email struck you as a craven attempt to sacrifice the rule of law for self-preservation, I hope you do some soul-searching over the weekend and join me in sending a message that this is unacceptable (in whatever way you can). As one of my more eloquent former colleagues put it:
"Do not pretend that what is happening is normal or excusable. It isn't."
There is only one acceptable response from attorneys to the Trump administration's demands: The rule of law matters.
The rule of law matters. As an attorney, if my employer cannot stand up for the rule of law, then I cannot ethically continue to work for them.

A Skadden attorney resigned today, citing the firm’s decision to strike a deal with Trump amid pressure campaign on law firms.

β€œ[I]f my employer cannot stand up for the rule of law, then I cannot ethically continue to work for them,” the former Skadden lawyer, Brenna Trout Frey, wrote on LinkedIn.
