Some news for all those Geocachers out there - and for those who are thinking of taking up the actvity.
There are now 3 geocaches stashed away somewhere in Geashill for you to find, 2 hidden by Geashill Tidy Towns.

Fast food serving tray cleaned out and filled with water with three sugar cubes dissolved in it. There’s a pretty stone - white line breaking up the darker stone - for the bees and butterflies to stand on.

Sugar water for my #bee & #butterfly friends. With a standing bar, obviously. 🦋

In all, about 19 species of bird were heard.
A highlight was a lone Cuckoo with its timeless 2 note song drifting across from Ballydownan.

Thanks again to Ricky for sharing his store of knowledge & his dodgy humour.

It was great to have the kettle on for a hot cup in the Old School afterwards.

DUSK CHORUS WALK
A big thank you to Ricky Whelan for leading us through a lovely relaxing walk filled with birdsong this evening.

It's great to have someone to hand with so much knowledge, not just of the calls of our garden and woodland birds but insights into the fascinating lives they lead.

8.00pm: Ricky will take us on an Evening Bird Ramble, with Swifts hopefully featuring.

9.30pm: A #Bat Walk led by Anna Collins of the Kildare Bat Group.

This guided walk offers a rare chance to learn about Ireland's native bats. 🦇

We made it...the 2024 SuperValu South East Regional Tidy Towns award at Ballykisteen Golf Hotel.

The recently formed Offaly Bat Group - 7 people - 6 wearing hi viz vests - are standing looking keen to get detecting!

For those a bit squeamish about bats it’s worth noting that each one can hoover up as many as 3,000 midges per night!!

Watch out for the upcoming Bat Walk during our Geashill Bioblitz in May.

The recently formed Offaly Bat Group met up in #Geashill last Thursday for an enjoyable evening’s monitoring of our bat population. 🦇
Armed with bat detectors picking up the distinctive clicks, pops & crackles at different frequencies of each type of bat, the group recorded 6 of the 9 Irish species

Please, please delay mowing or simply leave some patches of dandelions for another few weeks. It's a tiny act and makes a HUGE difference.
