People keep talking about how the next Dem President can repair democracy but a depressingly likely result is that the next Dem President will spend years dealing defiant Trump appointees and burrowed Trumpists that the Supreme Court says they can't get rid of.

There is, of course, ~zero chance of this happening. Democratic insiders are going to listen to Ezra Douthglesias & run on some amazing, ambitious Do An Abundance Of Popularism policy agenda which will die in the Senate & at SCOTUS. And the far right authoritarian threat will still be here. Again.

F1 race was thrilling until the FIA stewards once again decided their WDC winner with absurd rulings (Yuki / Lando) and killed the drama. Now a snoozer to the end.

You, a normal person visiting basilicas: wow very holy, what an atmosphere for prayer.

Me: what if all the giant statues in this city came alive and battled in a kumite?

Centrism-as-ethos fails to reckon with an existential-level belief in a hard moral universe, or the subsequent animating conviction to land squarely on the right + just side of that moral line.

Only a vibes-based β€œright side of history” morality gives room to break bread with those inflicting evil.

a few candidates have talked about this but any Dem planning to run in 2028 should make it explicit: the next DOJ will, in fact, go after you if you’re funding this awful ballroom, or any other pay to play deals you make with this administration

A 2 cents that seems obvious to me: Donald Trump has THE JUICE and with Zohran he finally got someone in his office who also has THE JUICE.

Stone Cold Steve Austin sees The Rock start getting pops, he knows THAT is who you want to be in the ring with. Enemies, friends, doesn't matter. Heat is heat.

Even if we have free elections in 2028 & Trump leaves office, he'll die a free man in his bed one day, & his WH/Cabinet officials will go on to lucrative media, academic, & business sinecures after his presidency. We all know this. It's grotesque. But it's the central feature of πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ politics forever.

Some smart person has made this point better than I will, but:

America CAN fundamentally and quickly remove harmful but ubiquitous parts of daily life (plastics, guns, social media, etc).

It’s already happened. Growing up, EVERYONE USED TO SMOKE INDOORS EVERYWHERE ALL THE TIME. And then we didn’t.
