There is, of course, ~zero chance of this happening. Democratic insiders are going to listen to Ezra Douthglesias & run on some amazing, ambitious Do An Abundance Of Popularism policy agenda which will die in the Senate & at SCOTUS. And the far right authoritarian threat will still be here. Again.

A 2 cents that seems obvious to me: Donald Trump has THE JUICE and with Zohran he finally got someone in his office who also has THE JUICE.

Stone Cold Steve Austin sees The Rock start getting pops, he knows THAT is who you want to be in the ring with. Enemies, friends, doesn't matter. Heat is heat.

Even if we have free elections in 2028 & Trump leaves office, he'll die a free man in his bed one day, & his WH/Cabinet officials will go on to lucrative media, academic, & business sinecures after his presidency. We all know this. It's grotesque. But it's the central feature of 🇺🇸 politics forever.

Some smart person has made this point better than I will, but:

America CAN fundamentally and quickly remove harmful but ubiquitous parts of daily life (plastics, guns, social media, etc).

It’s already happened. Growing up, EVERYONE USED TO SMOKE INDOORS EVERYWHERE ALL THE TIME. And then we didn’t.
