Digger (2003–2011) by Ursula Vernon
Tales of small furry things taking on gods – and often winning – abound in Vernon's early works, and Digger is true to form. While it explores a strand of fantasy less rooted in violent spectacle than Eat God's usual fare, its world of talking statues, vampiric gourds and oracular slugs has much to offer, and many of its cast – including the titular protagonist – make a good models for the Folk.
Browsing my media collection today to see if there was anything worth a proper writeup in Eat God's "Inspirational Media" section that I'd overlooked, and I can't BELIEVE I forgot to include this one.

It really starts to click when you realize that Sally Hemmings was Martha Wayles Skelton Jefferson's half-sister. She was born on the Wayles plantation, a product of rape, was owned by her own sister and her sister's husband, and then was forced to bear Thomas's children after Martha's death.

interesting to think that revolutionary era americans understood themselves as making a break with the “old world” and establishing a new civilization. and crucially, this new civilization rested on republican self-government, not “sovereignty.”

So we've been using an Al agent since November to
answer leadership questions about metrics. It seemed
amazing at first fast answers, detailed explanations,
everyone loved it.
I just found out it's been hallucinating numbers this
entire time.
Our VP of sales made territory decisions based on
data that didn't exist. Our CFO showed the board a
deck with fake insights. The Al was just inventing
plausible sounding percentages.
I only caught it by accident when someone asked me
to double check something. I started digging, and
holy shit, it's bad.
lol this is gonna burst so fucking hard

I really think the whole notion of “bearing witness” has gotten deeply twisted
“Witness” does not mean merely to observe firsthand. It means to carry truth and to testify to that truth in the pursuit of justice
You don’t need to traumatize yourself in order to know that atrocities are happening

A colleague at a previous job whose work involved handling reports of CSAM material and getting them taken down accidentally opened one of the images in question. He immediately closed the image, turned off his computer, handed it over to IT to be wiped, and reported the incident.

Memecoin and stonk traders really do think they’re equivalent to WWII fighter pilots: their mission is important and the world depends on them, they need to be awake all hours everyday, and you should thank them for their service fighting the enemy

Mr. Douglass rose, and, taking the violin, played once more to the delight of the PRESS representative "The Star Spangled Banner, and the goodbye was exchanged, and thus closed the longest interview ever obtained with the "Sage of Cedar Hill."
How to end an interview:
In 1889, Frederick Douglass told a visitor to his DC home that any government that would "grant the right of suffrage and deny itself the power to protect that right is...a sham and a fraud."
Then he grabbed his violin and played the Star Spangled Banner.

"I say! Are you Georgina?"
The child in the opposite bed sat up and looked across at Anne. She had very short
curly hair, almost as short as a boy's. Her face was burnt a dark-brown with the sun, and
“Famous Five 01 - Five On A Treasure Island” By Enid Blyton 7
her very blue eyes looked as bright as forget-me-nots in her face. But her mouth was
rather sulky, and she had a frown like her father's.
"No," she said. "I'm not Georgina."
"Oh!" said Anne, in surprise. "Then who are you?"
"I'm George," said the girl. "I shall only answer if you call me George. I hate being a girl.
I won't be. I don't like doing the things that girls do. I like doing the things that boys do. I
can climb better than any boy, and swim faster too. I can sail a boat as well as any
fisher-boy on this coast. You're to call me George. Then I'll speak to you. But I shan't if
you don't."
"Oh!" said Anne, thinking that her new cousin was most extraordinary. "All right! I don't
care what I call you. George is a nice name, I think. I don't much like Georgina. Anyway,
you look like a boy."
To give you an idea of how deranged the UK has become about gender stuff, here's Enid Blyton - the absolute avatar of classic English conservatism and a huge fan of racist "gollywogs" - casually describing a gender non-conforming kid in the 1940s and having their friends be totally cool with it.

This is the sort of busybody we need more of. The most relatable thing about the Patriots head coach is that he apparently chases down people in grocery store lots who leave their carts all over the place and makes them stack them in the designated area so employees don't have to go running around

Alt National Park Service: After seeing Rep. Massie’s post, we felt we should share this too:
We are not suicidal. Our vehicles have been inspected and are in good working order. We plan our routes and check conditions before heading out. Our gear is in good shape.
We pack food and water and tell people where we’re going. We stay on marked trails and respect public lands. There are no dangerous crossings or cliffs on our hikes and we know our limits. We’re pretty solid outdoorspeople and we plan to keep enjoying our parks for a long time.
I don't have a jerk-off motion big enough for this post.
The Alt National Park Service, a Facebook account that posts #resistance memes and steals headlines, is not in danger. No one is going to black-bag the fearless rangers at AltNPS. Get a grip.

A valentine from Public Health of Seattle and King County. A man shivers in bed while a smiling lady in a red mask shows off her bandage on her arm.
Text: Noses are red
Ice packs are blue
I'm vaxed so miss me with severe symptoms of flu.
A valentine from Public Health of Seattle and King County. Two lady scientists shrug lackadaisically. Text reads: My love for you can't be explained by science. Just like the new federal vaccine guidelines.
