What's that you say, Anas? That you tweeted this last year in 2025 about your 'old friend' Peter Mandelson and now you think Starmer should resign but you should keep your job?

Given how much misery and pessimism there is - understandably - around at the moment, I thought I'd do one of those 'thread' things and share the story of possibly the weirdest thing I have ever seen. And that's quite a high bar.

The Trump administration's goal, clearly stated last year by VP Vance in Munich, is to destroy the European Union. Including by betting the EU will cave in Greeland, and thus lose all geopolitical credibility, while fostering bilateral ties with eurosceptic governments in Europe. We cannot cave.

HOUSE OF COMMONS

Nigel Farage MP

House of Commons London

SW1A OAA

13 January 2026

Mr Farge,

Visiting Bermondsey and Old Southwark

I am writing following your public engagement on 7th January in London Bridge, which is in my constituency: Bermondsey and Old Southwark.

I appreciate you are unfamiliar with constituency requirements given your inattention to Clacton since being elected. But given you have spent three decades in and around Parliament, you should be aware that established protocol requires any MP conducting official business in another Member's constituency to notify the relevant Member in advance. You failed to follow parliamentary protocol on this matter last week. As someone who has so desperately attempted to be in Westminster for such a long time, I hope you are capable of learning and adhering to procedures, although I won't hold my breath.

Given you have described our capital city as 'crime-ridden' and 'unsafe' it must have been very difficult for you to pluck up the courage to book a venue in the centre of the capital for your event to promote yet another Tory defect in your ranks. But please do conform to the rules should you ever come back.

Your preference for spending time in London rather than Clacton (which is your constituency by the way), demonstrates the typically deceitful nature of your attacks on our capital. Deep down, you agree with me and the millions of UK and international visitors every year, that London remains our greatest city and well worth spending time in!

I would say I look forward to your next visit to the best constituency, in the best city, in the best country on the planet, but unlike you and the former Tories who riddle your party, I am not comfortable spouting untruths.

Sincerely,

Neil

Neil Coyle MP has written a brutal takedown letter to Nigel Farage for his breach of parliamentary protocol, because Farage visited Coyle's London constituency without notifying him. 10/10 no notes.

So, today marks 10 years since the passing of Bowie.

It also marks 10 years since I put something on Twitter about it which resulted in me having to take a day off work, chase down various international media, get blocked by half of Australia, and end up the filling in a Kanye and Madonna sandwich.

We’re only 10 days into 2026 and it feels pretty extreme and hopeless already but I’m seeing glimmers of what’s possible as people’s sadness and fear turns into focussed distain and a renewed willingness to not just react but to act strategically

If you’re feeling dysregulated, that means you care. Worry about those who don’t feel it

Rather than accept a pint for my birthday, I’d like to ask 4 quickies

Next week, I’m going to interview Music Declares Emergency on the Drowned in Sound podcast to discuss their new message, which we need right now: Hope Over Fear - a project to fund action hubs in grassroots music venues

1) Go treat yourself to some of their fantastic merch with slogans to live by like Another World Is Possible. This follows on from their brilliant No Music On A Dead Planet campaign

A lot of what’s occurring in the world right now from Ukraine to Venezuela is about extracting from our natural world. It’s about minerals to power AI and land grabs for fossil fuel that pollutes the planet but also to make the 3000 billionaires even richer

2) Speak their language and join the various boycotts of platforms like Spotify when lots of more ethical alternatives exist (I met some lovely researchers and experts who explained those alts in recent DiS podcasts if you wanna listen in)

3) Musicians and people who follow me who work in music can do simple things to push back like agreeing to give a small percent to Brian Eno’s EarthPercent, who fund the work of some amazing orgs including lawyers at Client Earth who take on governments and corporations, often holding them to existing agreements and laws or creating new ones. Musicians could also support projects like Sounds Right where you credit nature as a collaborator and a small royalty trickles through

4) You can also choose to support independent media with your time, attention, and ideally some funds. Whether that’s music blogs like mine or investigative reporters or emerging media orgs and creators
