getting the Lewis chess pieces from the British Museum. although corollary to this is also finding and heisting the private collectors who've purloined individual pieces here and there over the years

Every single person involved in this hate campaign and everyone who has supported them - Anas Sarwar, for example - needs to be run out of public life the way they've run Dr Upton out the NHS. Being trans isn't a risk factor for people around you; this obsessive hate absolutely is.

Star Trek Into Darkness (2013)

Abrams isn't a man so much as he's an avatar of cultural entropy. If you make something popular enough eventually you will die or sell it off and and a person in thick rimmed glasses whose main artistic vision is that he loves to have meetings will take it and sandblast it until it's nothing. I hate to see this happen here but maybe it's good that this happened. Maybe every franchise should collapse into a version of itself that makes shareholders nod and shake each others' hands. We should learn to speak in a language that rich people who don't dream can't comprehend.

when it comes to the UK, one of the main 'political scientist' guys who was being pushed in the media as having great insight into the working class is now just an open fascist electoral candidate rather than a slightly veiled fascist in academia (Matt Goodwin)

May Labour's Yvette Cooper, the former Home Secretary, be remembered always as the politician who imposed the ban at the behest of Britain's powerful weapons industry, so it could continue to profit from the deliberate massacre of the people of Gaza

Today's decision is, however a massive vindication of all those who argued the ban was a deliberate attempt to silence and criminalise the dissenting voices of campaigners trying to save lives by shutting down the suppliers of Israeli genocide.

The proscription order remains in place pending an appeal. Until further legal proceedings are complete, it remains a criminal offence to support or promote Palestine Action.

BlueSky is one of the worst platforms I have ever dealt with. Within seconds of creating a second account, after my first one was shut down just two days after it was created, my account was closed again. This happened despite the fact that I hadn’t posted anything or followed anyone. I was only in the process of adding a profile photo, yet I received an email claiming that my account was β€œspam” and that it was β€œcausing harm.” What kind of logic is this?

The painful truth is that the account was shut down the moment it became clear it was created from inside Gaza. It seems we are no longer allowed to write or speak about what is happening to us here. They are not afraid of content itself, but of our voices and the reality we carry with us.

Millions are spent to silence these voices and to erase the truth. I am exhausted by this platform and by how our photos and videos, which document real suffering, are treated as β€œviolations of community standards,” as if pain itself has become a crime.

What is happening is not simple moderation or policy enforcement. It is an attempt to erase our existence and bury the truth. And honestly, this is shameful and unbearably painful.

[the original poster has included two screenshots showing the email from bluesky admin informing him that his account has been taken down for being 'spammy, inauthentic or disruptive to users'. it's the standard boilerplate you get when they take moderation action.]

but if we go with the Ishay Landa style thing of saying that fascism grew out of existing features of liberal ideology then I think it's a sustainable argument

yeah I would say this is integral to a lot of American fiction (going back to conventional westerns which are obvious quite fascist themselves, arguably) and part of why it's easy to say "oh that's not fascist that's just A Traditional American Story Form"
