Since we're stating good things about sociology, I'll also throw it out there that soc (and many other social sciences & humanities) are absolutely useful for democratic education, not just as an engine to the economy.

Its so important to look at province-specific trends on this, as Ontario has a completely different trend of decline and it drowns out everything else.

It is funny that Alberta over the last 10+ years has had a continued boom in sociology enrolment compared to most other provinces in Canada. I'm tempted to credit Harper. ;)

We have left the realm of liberal democracy in this province.

I am confused (but not) by people who live in Alberta and believe that Canada is ontologically incapable of authoritarian moves happening in the US right now.

I'm not saying things are as bad here, but the idea that it can't happen here because Canada has "decent people" as leaders... ho boy.
