Since we're stating good things about sociology, I'll also throw it out there that soc (and many other social sciences & humanities) are absolutely useful for democratic education, not just as an engine to the economy.

Its so important to look at province-specific trends on this, as Ontario has a completely different trend of decline and it drowns out everything else.

Good thread.
It is funny that Alberta over the last 10+ years has had a continued boom in sociology enrolment compared to most other provinces in Canada. I'm tempted to credit Harper. ;)

This is among the most democratically dangerous things Danielle Smith has said.
She wants to remove all checks and balances on her power and projects herself as the embodiment of "the people."
We have left the realm of liberal democracy in this province.

I am confused (but not) by people who live in Alberta and believe that Canada is ontologically incapable of authoritarian moves happening in the US right now.
I'm not saying things are as bad here, but the idea that it can't happen here because Canada has "decent people" as leaders... ho boy.

Just bought a new stove, & we're excited to get it. However, this bugs me: "Smart WiβFi Enabled range β integrates WiβFi connectivity for remote preheating, timer adjustments, and status checks from compatible mobile devices."
If you need to preheat your oven with your phone... no you don't.

Is it me, or does Microsoft's to-do app, its planner app, and its "My Day" page just... don't work together? Like, its not that they're buggy, but just... bad?

The UCP argues recall is being weaponized against policy, not misconduct.
By that logic, the Gondek recall was also weaponized, as it was explicitly against her policies.
The UCP's reaction to the weaponized recall on Gondek?
To make recall easier.

PARKLAND INSTITUTE'S 29TH ANNUAL FALL CONFERENCE
NOVEMBER 21 β 23, 2025
We are living through extraordinary times β times that would have seemed unthinkable just a few years ago. Around the world, autocracy is on the rise. The new U.S. regime threatens the sovereignty of these lands currently called Canada. Here at home, misinformation and corruption have taken hold in Albertaβs government. The pillars of liberal democracy are crumbling under the strain of growing authoritarianism.
In Edmonton for a conference. Should be fun.
