It’s exciting to finally be in the new era of Donkey Kong, but part of me will miss outsiders wondering how I kept momentum for the last 11 years. Rather than explaining the big DK stories and how we also cover the wider DKU, it was fun letting them assume I’m a wild masochist.

The funniest thing to me about that art from last night is that I say there laughing to myself about how DK's hair made him look like a Detective Conan character and then I give him the mustache and zoom out and suddenly I'm looking at a discount Yusaku Kudo.

Here are their general human refs! I use these mostly for colors, but this is also the general designs I use for them. They're about late 20's/early 30's-ish here, and in the older designs they're more late 40's-ish. :)

Wanted to figure out older-age designs for DK and Candy for a bit, and I've realized the best way for me to not make the same choices over and over again with Kongs is to draw the character as a human and then figure out how to translate that later on.

So, uh, human DK and Candy but they're older!

I was trying to draw a foggy scene, but it ended up looking like one of those silhouette levels from DKC Returns (hence why Gooey gets to keep some of his features).
