Travellers set up camp after security stops them entering park ground
Formal eviction proceedings are now underway following the arrival of a convoy of caravans and other vehicles onto Sheldon Country Park on Saturday.
#Sheldon #LibDem Councillor Colin Green @colingreenld.bsky.social addressing the issue of unlawful traveller encampments at Gilberstone Park: βImproving security at one site just displaces activity elsewhere.β
Council are clearly failing to solve this effectively

Count the numbers by hand and you see the Green Party plateaued at 14.1% before Christmas. The average of January's polls for them is 13.7%

The trend lines are generated by something similar to a rolling average of samples that came before and after. About a month from the end of the graph, the number of samples used starts to shrink until the tip of the graph only uses about 3. The true picture only emerges later.

Be careful with the last month on that Wikipedia graph. The trend line method is dodgy and tents to produce lines that are steeper than they really are. A month from now, January's trend lines will almost certainly look a bit flatter than they do now.

Birmingham Councilβs Collapse Explained: Austerity, Mismanagement, or Both?
Do you want to know why Birmingham City Council is bankrupt? Chambers have made an excellent documentary on the subject which you can see on YouTube (linked here). I was more than happy to take part and help tell the story.

NOTHING will prepare you for this 45-second story arc. From "I'm just doing this because I love the flag, it's totally grassroots, and I'm not part of anything political"... to who actually gave him the flags the night before.
Anyone who believes it is an innocent movement needs to see this.

Improving Birmingham highways: Councillor Colin Green speaks at full council
Why are the roads in Birmingham so bad? Because the council is in stasis until the government decides whether to allow us to continue with PFI or not. I spoke at the council this week to get them to urge Angela Rayner to get on with it.

Anger as Brum Council pushes ahead with 'unjust' park charges
Birmingham City Council has plans to introduce new parking charges at Lickey Hills, Sutton Park and Sheldon Country Park
Labour confirms car parking charges at Sheldon Country park. It's madness. The money raised in parking charges will be less than the cost of the ticket machines. Everyone will lose out except the people who fit the machines.

Apartment plans approved despite concern over 'mistake lasting 100 years'
The Birmingham Smithfield scheme is set to transform the former wholesale markets near the Bullring shopping centre into a major new destination
The one thing Brum has enough of is 1 bed flats. They They serve a more transitory group, and can erode a sense of community.
The city needs more family homes.
Cllr Green regularly makes this point when new developments come to the planning committee:

Liberal Democrats believe that we have a moral obligation to stand up to Trump and challenge his view of the world.
That will almost certainly necessitate a realignment, where we look closer to home, to our European partners for our future security alliances.

Birmingham City council denied permission for new 9.99% tax rise
But the government says the council can increase it by 7.5% without a local referendum.
Birmingham's council tax will go up 7.5% this year instead of the 10% that was planned. The equal pay settlement is not as high as some feared, so the council doesn't have to raise quite as much to pay for it.

Exact date your last bin will be collected in Birmingham before bin strike
12-day bin strike planned from early 2025 after crunch talks broke down between Unite and Birmingham city council
Bin workers' strikes start on Monday and will cover 12 dates over the next 4 months. The strikes are because the illegal pay settlements that triggered Birmingham's 'bankruptcy' are being changed to comply with discrimination law.
