New Home Office impact assessment finds that cutting skilled and social care visas will cost the UK up to Β£10 billion with a central estimate of -Β£5.4 billion.

It would be good if this got even a fraction of the coverage devoted to the endless debate about boats, flags and Turkish barber shops

Robin Williams' daughter, Zelda Williams, also recently slammed people who are making Al-generated videos of her late father, calling the clips "gross." She added, "To watch the legacies of real people be condensed down to 'this vaguely looks and sounds like them so that's enough, just so other people can churn out horrible TikTok slop pup-peteering them is maddening. You're not making art, you're making disgusting, over-processed hotdogs out of the lives of human beings, out of the history of art and music, and then shoving them down someone else's throat hoping they'll give you a little thumbs up and like it."

My wife is an illustrator who does a lovely range of seasonal and nature themed cards, prints, teatowels (sometimes with awful puns I have repeatedly failed to veto). All her illustrations are hand-drawn and coloured. She also does commissions, with custom maps being a speciality: www.coostie.co.uk

I have a governance point: a film being "A Christmas Film" is not about what people think, it is an epistemological question about the film's content, style, and so on

A survey is therefore an inappropriate methodological tool to determine the christmasness or otherwise of any given film

I used to love walking through piles of leaves, then I got a dog and realised:

a) Dogs love to poo in them
b) Dog poo is IMPOSSIBLE to find in a pile of leaves.

I don't walk through piles of leaves any more.

I don’t have a dog #altc - eLearning Stuff Dogs can be wonderful pets, or so I have been told. So ask me do I have a dog? The answer is no. Now ask me why I don’t have a dog? I don’t have the time! Over the last twenty years or so when learnin...

When people say they don't have the time, the answer is not more time.

What people mean when they say they don't have the time, what they actually mean it isn't a priority for them.

Make it a priority, then they will find the time.

If I may present an alternative opinion on cloud outages:

Occasional short reminders of fragility in centralization and smoke-testing of our societal systems with effectively inconsequential events, is important.

There is going to be day gigaoutage culminates, due to lack of minoroutage warnings.

Computers were a skill. They were taught in classrooms as a skill. Skills give you power over your tools because you work them as an expert and that is leverage to multiply externally.

And then computers became an A/B tested telemetry-based advertising conduit to brains for SaaS recurring revenue.

Looking towards Keswick and Derwent Water, walking around the "waist" of Little Man (easier than going up it!), in the Lakes.
