There's a Housing organisation in Cambs that closed down an old peoples home in the middle of a rural village to turn it into short term social lets with 24hr security, simply because they can charge what they like vs the previous 80% cap to local market rental rate.

He has a huge majority, despite the fall off in votes. He can use it to renovate, rejuvenate and reinvigorate the country, or he can play footsy with the financial industry like Blair did, leaving the iniquities of FPTP in place etc.

Attlee is my yardstick. Starmer pales in comparison.

No. That's just the lack of ideas. His actions toward the Left of the Party and general lack of socialism is the lie.

No, he mangled the 2019 election with his 2018 speech and has thrown FBPE under the bus.

In the list of policies it includes "restoring funding" to UNRWA. I don't know where the author finds the gall.

There is some good stuff. Almost impossible for there not to be. Just tinkering on the descent.

Rail done on the cheap, minimal effort. But the way he handled the Haigh situation speaks volumes.

But Royal Mail is owned by a billionaire. When it would have cost only Β£3.6bn to restore it as a public good.

Yet Thames Water gets over Β£3bn...

I hate the deceit and the weakness.

Indeed. However, I think it was the lying to members in the leadership election (me included and to my face), then the lying about Europe, then the complete lack of any policy remotely to the Left of politics, which would enable any sort of national recovery.

I mean, 6 months in & bereft of ideas:

I call upon my MP, on all those in positions of influence and all people of the UK to take a stand against this savagery.

Not in our name. We demand an end to these war crimes.

Repost if you stand against this genocide.

Weird. Everything I learn about him tells me he's a lying chancer, who breaks pledges and promises to whomever he spoke to prior to the next person he speaks to.

He's a bland sham with no fixed principles, upon whom people placed their hopes and now generally seek to justify their disappointment.

UBI isn't supposed to be a magic bullet that cures everything, but its big advantage is it destroys conditionality which justifies enormous judgmental bureaucracies that alienate poor people and encourage them to hate each other and vote for the right

It's a close terms issue. Social democracy seems fine with core services being provided by private contractors. I'm not.

I want some form of UBI, pay ratios in all businesses, extreme upper tax bands, worker board reps and fair profit/ dividend sharing, free at use public services run by state.

28.12.2024 10:57 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Attlee proved otherwise. We don't need to have control over sweet or shoe manufacturing or even vehicles. However, services and monopolies must be operated by the state. Enterprise is welcome, but not exploitation or excessive wealth gathering.

I seem to have upset the Nigel Farage fan club - so let me be clear.

This man sows hate, lies and division.

He is a grifter and a conman.

He does not represent the vast majority of Britons.

Repost if you agree

P.s. multiculturalism is great.

It's a spectrum. Soc Dems are willing to outsource and have private companies providing private services. Hands off corporate controls and the market etc. Neolibs are hardcore Soc Dems.

Dem Socs simply believe in publicly owned services and strong employment laws/regulation of corps.

"Just about anyone in a supervised wage-labor job
finds it maddening to pretend to be busy. Working is
meant to serve a purposeβ€”if make believe play is an
expression of human freedom, then make-believe work
imposed by others represents a total lack of freedom.

It’s unsurprising, then, that the first historical occurrence
of the notion that some people ought to be working at all
times, or that work should be made up to fill their time
even in the absence of things that need doing, concerns
workers who are not free: prisoners and slaves."

For those interested, there is actually a book on this topic.

The book is called Bullshit Jobs!

Ah, someone who prefers to blame the guy who was sabotaged, but not the saboteurs.

He lost to Johnson due to Starmer's PV speech and the utter bunkum regurgitated by many, many knaves, twisting in plain sight.

Privatisation has failed. It is time to renationalise.

Water
Power
Royal Mail
Rail
National Grid
Telecoms

Everything that we are going to use every day forever, we don't want to rent it at ripoff prices.

We want to own it.

I'm so old, I remember when nationalised Royal Mail delivered the post twice a day with stamps at an affordable price. Then it was sold off and 'the superior efficiency of the private sector' kicked in.
