The winter term is about to start, and with it our lecture series on "Global Politics, Gender, and (In-)Equality". The lectures will take place on selected Thursdays via Zoom.

Gestern Vormittag wurde im Bundestag der Opfer des Nationalsozialismus gedacht. Und am Nachmittag hat im gleichen Haus ein Dammbruch stattgefunden, vor dem seit langem gewarnt wurde. 1/8

6/6 that is shared by activists across the continent & not only a response to the 2024 U.S. presidential elections. As Nozizwe Ntesang beautifully put it, ultimately 'the prevailing power dynamics must be dismantled to pave the way for a reimagined LGBTI activism rooted in joy and anti-colonialism'.

5/6 the importance to continue to point out and deconstruct post- and neo-colonial dynamics such as the spread of anti-LGBTIQ+ norms and legislation initiatives and the diffusion of hateful rhetoric and harmful policies. These strategies are of course part of an on-going conversation and struggle

4/6 We also discuss some strategies to counter these developments: importance of creating stronger transnational alliances across the continent and, increasingly and where possible, looking to national and regional sources for funding;

3/6 expansion of the global gag rule; even more loss of 'faith in the U.S. as a nation that furthers equality' (Omar van Reenen); advancement of the global right and push by 'anti-gender' movements across the continent, their extremely harmful impact on national legislations, norms, and policies.

2/6 executive orders (on 'defending women' (wtf) and on 'reevaluating US foreign aid'), we get a glimpse into the severe implications - the contributions in the chapter have already pointed out. Some of these are: (further) dehumanization of LGBTIQ+ persons, especially *TIN persons;

1/6 we discuss the multifaceted and complex impact of the U.S. Presidential elections on LGBTIQ+ communities and activism across the African continent and spell out the devastating effects of another Trump administration. Already in the first hours after taking office, through at least two of the
