That's a great idea. Call it THE TEST OF TIME. The editor should intro each story with how it's ideas/elements/etc. have been carried forward and now seem natural or how it was the first to do something that others now respond to, which would separate the book from just great classic stories.

When I was an editor at Avon Books, I found this before anyone because I covered the small presses for paperback rights. It was brilliant (the Pennys suit, coupons, not belonging to 3 clubs), so I made the first bid: $35K. The rights sold (not to me) for $1,035,000. It was a 2 year bestseller.

Dirty little publishing secret: If you want your book to be face out, you just make it face out and hope no staffers notice or care. In NYC B&N used to have people working full-time just to deplace books whose editors were turning face out (without paying for that privilege).

I went to the nearest Barnes & Noble and awkwardly explained to someone at the help desk that I had a new book out and asked where it might be (it's genre fluid) and it was faced out (!) Then she took some pictures, had me sign their books, and said they'd already sold a copy. A win/win/win.

One of my favorite parts of seeing Springsteen was when he played 41 SHOTS and all the Chris Christie hogs grunted their displeasure at being forced to hear what Bruce actually stands for. Can't wait for the reaction from these bums to the new song.

I don't think the owners of AMC even know what's playing in their theatres. It's all just content. They probably focus entirely on how much dry, flavorless premade popcorn they sell.
