IMO the main problem with NIMBYism is simply that "this conflicts with my sense of aesthetics" just isn't ever a valid argument when weighed against the material needs of human beings, regardless of how closely those aesthetics hew to a societal good.

I think I might be miswired for certain kinds of horror that the general population seems to have, like some people have a disconnect between music and pleasure (www.eurekalert.org/news-release...), or how some people have aphantasia.

I've never understood how biblically accurate angels are supposed to be scary, but then what they are is "eldritch" the same way lovecraftian monstrosities are, and I never found those scary either. I found them weird and kind of funny.
