Sorry for the delayed update! Been working with the upstream provider. Unfortunately they are still going down on occasion but have told me they’re working to fix that 🀞

Hey! Sorry about this :/. We have an upstream infrastructure provider that has been going down intermittently, causing posts to sometimes be dropped. Is it that every post you make doesn’t show up or only some? I’m going to bring this back up with them today and check on the status of their fix

Agreed I think the problem can be solved through governance (member owned) rather than through technology. Probably a mix of both would be good

Yes true

It does. Too bad crypto has poisoned the would be use cases for crypto 😭

Good point, I should tune in more and get more involved with it!

Yes rest is def needed. I trust the team docs made a good assessment of the safety πŸ™πŸΌ

Having a real race through Paris is way way better than the parade we got in the past. They should do this every year! #tdf25

I have to say I am astounded by my little brother’s mental strength. Racing that hard while having bronchitis for two weeks is unimaginable to me.

I was happy to see the determination pay off today!

I would love to see it if you do!

A public PDS with replication would be cool so that you never are dependent on a single host (tho you can always self host too)

27.07.2025 11:58 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

That’s fair. It could happen here too. One big difference is that here the data is not tied to the instance or features or app at all. So anyone can host their data anywhere with no changes to the experience.

But it’s also true that currently most people just use the Bluesky hosted PDS

27.07.2025 11:58 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

100%. It really could be similar to open street map just with a biking specific layer

27.07.2025 11:56 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Ipfs could definitely be part of the solution but there is also a governance aspect to it in addition to the technical β€œwhere is this data stored” part. Have to be able to stop AI company’s from sucking it up, etc

27.07.2025 11:55 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

Can’t* suck it all up lol

27.07.2025 11:41 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I also think this is a reason we need to be able to build communal data that is somehow owned and governed by a community rather than by a company. It’s definitely possible!

27.07.2025 11:40 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

It would definitely depend on user repositories being accessible, but that creates incentive for the ones building the app to treat them well. Unless you mean outages when you say β€œgo down”?

27.07.2025 11:40 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

That’s the power of Bluesky, though many of us don’t realize it. We users own our data here and can move it wherever we want. An investor buying Bluesky would be buying an application codebase, not at data or users. There are already many other Bluesky clients than the one built by Bluesky itself

Kind of like how crypto (as much as I don’t like it) has recreated scarcity in the digital world, we need to recreate public lands and assets

27.07.2025 11:29 β€” πŸ‘ 6    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

There also clearly needs to be some way to create closed content so that companies can suck it all up into their LLMs, but we can appreciate it together.

We need a way to build protected digital commons, where the protections are built in to the thing itself.

27.07.2025 11:29 β€” πŸ‘ 11    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

Yep it’s unmatched, but that’s mainly thanks to the community and contributors as far as I can tell. I think we consumers need to get smarter about which platforms we give our labor (content) to, and what guarantees they give back to us

27.07.2025 11:24 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Although one thing I thing ATProto could use is a solution for storing public data that isn’t owned by one user or another but is accessible by all. Maybe even editable by all? Like open street maps generalized to whatever data you want
