Psychologists & related fields: what is a big methods question that you believe remains somewhat unanswered & that you'd love to see adressed? There may be an opportunity for a large-scale meta-science project with many teams trying to figure out a question.

Any thoughts welcome! #psychscisky

Are you an early-career researcher (or someone hoping to help ECRs) working in #openscience or #metascience? The @reproducibilitea.org podcast is looking for guests for our next season of episodes! We'd love to feature ECR voices foremost – the next generation of scientists should be heard the most!

A Tale of Two Science Reform Movements Reflections from meetings of Metascience 2025 and the Society for the Improvement of Psychological Science

New post! "A Tale of Two Science Reform Movements," in which I compare the recent #Metascience2025 and #SIPS2025 conferences, and find that I am much more at home at one than the other. getsyeducated.substack.com/p/a-tale-of-...

remarkable to me how much of (my) #sips2025 was about publishing reform, but how totally absent that has been from #metascience2025 (indeed, the very opposite with an elsevier VP joining a keynote panel)

go submit to @psych.peercommunityin.org folks!

Shift control from corporate publishers back to scholars, by supporting, and submitting your work to initiatives like MetaROR (metascience), PCI Psychology, and diamond OA journals (freejournals.org) e.g. Wikijournal of Science (wikijsci.org).

Many-analysts approaches can help uncover analytical insecurity. The Journal of Robustness Reports publishes short reports that check alternative analytical approaches for articles. Very cool! πŸ’ͺ #SIPS2025 @improvingpsych.org #OpenScience

In theory, yes, but in practice, it feels very hard to change this. To be honest I'm not even sure that system would be any better, bc who can pay? Probably not diamond OA journals. I'd rather we all do unpaid work for community-run journals than paid work for for-profit journals.

27.05.2025 13:41 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I guess it depends on what you mean by easily :)

27.05.2025 00:18 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

But then again, if I’m going to spend 10 hs checking a paper for free, I’d rather check the ones most likely to be read & cited. Unfortunately, that’s still the ones at high prestige (often for profit) journals. Hopefully we'll change that soon.

26.05.2025 12:39 β€” πŸ‘ 4    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Fair point and I fully agree with the sentiment, but not sure what a realistic alternative is. Lots of editorial work is volunteer (or β€œpart of your academic job”, which i’m not sure i agree with), including reviewing. Maybe we only volunteer our labor at diamond OA journals. #psychscisky #scipub
