The US has targeted countries and cultures since their inception. This isn’t even the first time they’ve tried these tactics in Canada. But it’s so distressing to see it working on some Canadians.

But I will not go silently. I will not allow them to change us.

Diversity is our strength. Compassion and empathy is our strength. We need to do better for ourselves, but also to combat this rhetoric from the south.

I am only now as of Oct 2025 able to fully disengage from the US with my future. But the very tactical and planned attacks from the Trump gov are very real in Canada.

They are changing our culture, or trying their hardest to. For annexation, for our resources. For our country.

I cannot imagine how the most targeted folks are feeling. It breaks me daily, because I know the conversations and how many times I was told “no no, don’t worry. The US gov isn’t talking about you!” No one understood I wasn’t worried about me, I was worried about those they WERE talking about.

I lived 10yrs of my life thinking I was giving up what made me who I was, the country I love (that is not perfect and needs to do better in many areas), the diversity and acceptance for a country that called me an alien. A white, professional eligible the the H1-B visas who has all the privileges.

Correct, but there is an openly gay player, Luke Prokop, who was drafted by a team in 2020. When he came out in 2021, he was the first openly gay player with an NHL contract. He was the first openly gay player to play in the AHL (development league for the NHL). But he has yet to play in the NHL.
