everyone trying to make sense of it everyone knows they’re supposed to stop making sense but everyone’s afraid to leave their cage of rationalism, of protective narcissism, of superiority. so they sprint like gold rush miners for this grand psychological frontier and just kill it worse by solving it

i’m not usually one for narrativeless mediums. i do appreciate the confidence and fearlessness of 20th century art from the Americas but I think that depth in painting or photography of any kind oughtn’t be derived from some “story” you can piece together. it’s more visceral, more vulnerable, right?

sportfishing photography has this strange relationship w color. fluorescent and utopian in a way we lately mistrust, perhaps just bc it’s a signifier for when someone’s trying to sell you something. i’d buy the fish if i could but i don’t think i can so i don’t think the fish is for sale

the colors just blow me away why’d they get so damn clean with it. why that shade of blue on the sunglasses, the MATCHING sunglasses

continuing to invoke the fish is not a joke because it would be a bad joke. this is an exercise and i don’t care if anyone pays attention to it but if you think i’m dealing in glances and technicalities then one of us needs to reevaluate their relationship with language

modernism remains cringe, post-modernism’s a tiresome inward fractal. rationalism is unwise, post-rationalism a memegrift pipeline to fascism—an alternative to just hating hating hating voicelessly. i’ve unmoored myself & demolished my foundation, out of fear. that fish is so huge if you look at it

makes you wonder if you’re always behind the times or just fundamentally uncool and everything you touch becomes uncool. but i’m confident in my real life (divorced from any attempt at cultural contribution) and i’m confident in this fish picture. in my head they threw him back

i dig that guy’s painter’s jeans too. out on the open ocean. at a point in my life where i need a break from judging people for their hobbies. yet even vocalizing that feels so passé. i hate this feeling

which is to say, the fish is not mid. aesthetically incongruous but still spectacular. or perhaps precisely in line with some rejected aesthetic—or perhaps again, perhaps a flash of light from the dying embers of a pre-aestheticized world

honestly the reason i like the fish picture is it just looks interesting. you know? sometimes i think the reason “mid” has become so ubiquitous is because we’re indeed in a specific crisis of mediocrity. almost everything fits inside our systems, thus rendering everything essentially weightless
