He sits down at the table. The farmer comes in and leans against a wall to talk to his wife and watch him eat his breakfast.

Herriot looks around despairingly and spots a pot of piccalilli on the table. It'll help cover up the fat. He spoons a big helping onto the plate. /4

Can't remember which book, but it's early on when he's still young and the farmers don't respect him. Anyway, he's up all night helping a cow birth and as the sun comes up he's successful. /1
