A company for carrying out an undertaking of great advantage, but nobody to know what it is.

Friday tune:
13.02.2026 18:56 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Hush now, you'll summon Tony Blair.
13.02.2026 15:44 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0The German for "equals" is "gleich" and so whenever my kids talk about maths it's exactly this effect.
13.02.2026 15:42 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Is there any justification given at all for the cost of this certificate?
13.02.2026 15:14 β π 0 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0Reading the page you posted it's not quite that bad - if you're under the "automatically a UK citizen" elements at the top you just apply for a passport as normal, the 1200 quid fee applies if you don't automatically qualify.
13.02.2026 15:10 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Friend of mine automatically got German citizenship by providing evidence that one of her direct ancestors was Jewish and had fled Germany under Hitler.
13.02.2026 15:06 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The British fees for this kind of thing always blindside me, they're insane.
13.02.2026 15:04 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0fuβ
13.02.2026 15:04 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0However, previously I would have had to make a declaration that I had renounced UK citizenship; lying at this point _could_ later be taken as justification for withdrawing my German citizenship, so just letting the passport lapse would not be sufficient.
13.02.2026 15:00 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I didn't have to in the end - Germany changed the law in 2024 to permit easier dual citizenship, and I applied under that so I could keep UK as well.
13.02.2026 14:59 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Met some colleagues earlier this week who didn't have to go through passport control leaving the UK to come to Germany, for example.
13.02.2026 14:52 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Does the UK actually track these data these days, though? The absence of even vaguely accurate exit data has been a significant problem for the UK for a long time.
13.02.2026 14:51 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 3 π 0"Β‘Hola! Β‘El squirrel!"
13.02.2026 14:46 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Although as ever there will be a fuss about "forcing" people from NI to choose or lose; no idea how this can be handled sensibly.
13.02.2026 14:44 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The modern approach, as much as there is one, is to permit dual citizenship but also insist on entering a country that you have citizenship of on the passport of that citizenship. It's a very common approach and the UK is not being an outlier by insisting on it here.
13.02.2026 14:44 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0I could get behind this.
13.02.2026 14:41 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Can't believe I'm about to Rule 34 PonyFans
13.02.2026 14:38 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Under the previous law where Germany didn't allow dual citizenship with non-EU countries I was unofficially told "Go ahead and renounce it [UK citizenship], it's easy to get back if you claim the renunciation was forced upon you" but that always sounded like a dodgy loophole to rely on.
13.02.2026 14:30 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0I think a lot of people have skated along on countries being relaxed about some of the rules up to now but now are going to be forced to make a proper choice and they don't like it.
13.02.2026 14:30 β π 7 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Quoting Insane Clown Posse is the first step to enlightenment.
13.02.2026 12:02 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Oh wait you've already answered.
13.02.2026 11:50 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Steel production?
13.02.2026 11:49 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It's part of the Sonos story that their first product had to be, above everything else, updatable, so they could fix it by software when it inevitably broke. The real practical upshot is that the updates periodically break it instead.
13.02.2026 07:42 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0So soft and moist.
13.02.2026 05:24 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Found this in my photos.
12.02.2026 21:56 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 1How about
12.02.2026 21:33 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I've been living near Munich for 8 years now, swimming in lakes, and last time I swam in the sea I was amazed how buoyant it was.
12.02.2026 21:27 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I've seen a number of companies that claim they'll be mining helium-3 on the moon in the next few years, despite the fact that the fusion reactors that need it don't exist yet.
