Largest copper miners are from Australia (BHP) and Chile (Codelco) but alright. I think there is only one American company in the top ten and itβs Freeport-McMoran

03.12.2025 23:17 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0If someone takes extra time on a test maybe they actually needed that extra time. Maybe they have an undiagnosed disability or maybe they just donβt share it with anyone, you donβt know. To just assume there are people scamming the system instead of just needing help tells me a lot about a person.

So yes, I do think scientists need to work on building trust w the public regardless of how much money is spent to discredit us. There were (and still are) some really awful people who were/are scientists. Itβs not your fault, but the public doesnβt know you arenβt like that unless you prove it
26.11.2025 23:12 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0In the 1940s Vanderbilt University gave radioactive iron to poor pregnant women. People have a real reason to not trust scientists. And while we didnβt do it, itβs not so easy for the public to trust us. That memory is gonna take a long time to go away.
26.11.2025 23:12 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Iβve recently seen the discussion about how scientists need to rebuild trust, and well, I donβt think we have ever really had it. Scientists in the not so distant past did some really shitty things. People are still alive who had their relatives experimented on. And we just kinda moved on from that.

Detail of a polished slab of siltstone coloured pale brown and grey with manganese oxide dendrites. There are significant Mn deposits in the L Triassic of S China.
Polished surface of the stone with a lower pale grey and upper mid grey colouration. It is specked and blotched with manganese oxide minerals.
A brown variety of this stone again patterned with manganese oxide dendrites.
A purple coloured variety of this stone which shows a cloudy pattern with grey streaks and beautiful examples of black manganese oxide dendrites.
This beautiful stone is from China and Iβm trying to find out more about it. It might be from the M Triassic Baifeng or Guohua Fms of S China. Is there anyone out there with local knowledge? Iβve not been able to locate sufficient detail in the literature. Itβs not a carbonate. #chinesepicturestone
