Largest copper miners are from Australia (BHP) and Chile (Codelco) but alright. I think there is only one American company in the top ten and it’s Freeport-McMoran

If someone takes extra time on a test maybe they actually needed that extra time. Maybe they have an undiagnosed disability or maybe they just don’t share it with anyone, you don’t know. To just assume there are people scamming the system instead of just needing help tells me a lot about a person.

No one pretends to be disabled to get accommodations just like no one pretends to be poor to get food stamps.

Ruling that the land owner owns the pore space under their property is interesting. Do you own the pore space but not what’s in it if it happens to be natural gas or whatever (unless you also own the mineral rights)? I have a lot of questions about this.

They were like he’s really struggling with these things and then listed classic signs of ADHD and I was like, yes that’s the ADHD and why he needs these accommodations for those exact things. And then they made me jump through hoops to prove it.

My kid already had an IEP and we had to fight for a year to get ADHD added to it after he was diagnosed. It’s like they didn’t want to give him β€œtoo many” accommodations

So yes, I do think scientists need to work on building trust w the public regardless of how much money is spent to discredit us. There were (and still are) some really awful people who were/are scientists. It’s not your fault, but the public doesn’t know you aren’t like that unless you prove it

26.11.2025 23:12 β€” πŸ‘ 3    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

In the 1940s Vanderbilt University gave radioactive iron to poor pregnant women. People have a real reason to not trust scientists. And while we didn’t do it, it’s not so easy for the public to trust us. That memory is gonna take a long time to go away.

I’ve recently seen the discussion about how scientists need to rebuild trust, and well, I don’t think we have ever really had it. Scientists in the not so distant past did some really shitty things. People are still alive who had their relatives experimented on. And we just kinda moved on from that.

This beautiful stone is from China and I’m trying to find out more about it. It might be from the M Triassic Baifeng or Guohua Fms of S China. Is there anyone out there with local knowledge? I’ve not been able to locate sufficient detail in the literature. It’s not a carbonate. #chinesepicturestone

The data center boom in the desert The AI race is transforming northwestern Nevada into one of the world's largest data-center marketsβ€”and sparking fears of water strains in the nation’s driest state.

Data centers popping up on Indigenous lands everywhere, but especially perilous to us desert tribes where water availability for crops and for communities have new competition.
