I blame Trump and the weak pissants at CBS for cancelling Colbert. Now that is silencing media through comedy. It doesn’t mean we won’t keep laughing at Trump. Colbert will land on his feet somewhere and CBS will lose viewers.

5/ what else is out there for me if not science? Always open to advice, opinions, questions.

4/ the other day was the 10 year anniversary of that Pluto encounter. And really feel my days of playing scientist are near an end. With how the NASA budget might be cut and how hard it is normally to get funding and just feeling like I am not too important to the field.

3/ I got to be part of the composition team, playing with endless amounts of spectra of Pluto, Charon, the small satellites and then Arrokoth in 2019.

2/ of course I followed the news on a mission to Pluto. That was always on again/off again. Never in my childhood dreams did I think I’d be part of the New Horizons mission. But somehow I was.

1/ So I’ve wanted to be an astronomer since I was like 12 or so. At that time Voyager 2 was about to encounter Neptune. I have some recollection of Halley’s Comet and the Uranus encounter a few years prior. And in the years post Voyager I grew excited for missions like Galileo and Cassini and HST.

I’d like to see it in both. NIR spectroscopy can tell you so much.

Who did Trump appoint to head NASA after his first nominee fail the Trump test … Real World contestants and current Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy. Because running by NASA really is a part time job?!? Just another joke for science to swallow.

I want to make a Doctor Who joke, but it probably wouldn’t be understood. But has anyone checked if Omega is at the other end of that beam?

Here we are in the “Find Out Phase.”

Well now that NASA’s not going to have money … what should my next adventure be? It was fun playing scientist but it’s time to move on. Highlight of course was being part of New Horizons. It was a dream come true.

Maybe I should build backyard gardens next?

Sound like quite a forward thinking person. I would have voted for him if I was a NYC resident.

What to do?!? Finish up projects and move on or stick with science? I know nothing else.

As a native NYer who grew up under Mario Cuomo as governor (too young to really know anything), and apparently shared the same high school as his son (some years later), and given Andrew’s reasons for leaving office, I’d certainly vote for a different candidate, if I still lived there.

His “two weeks” is a fucking joke and the media ran with it. In two weeks will they ask him again. No. Why? Because Trump will have started yet another dumpster fire or three to grab our attention.

Maybe if they chase down citizens, they should run. The more ice agents needlessly running after citizens is just another person able to get home from their immigration hearing or their work shift. I just wanna punch and scream sometimes.

He’s mental. What does he have to do with any of those countries?!?

I mean, what if someone went up to their van after they got out and just deflated the tires? Or jammed a banana in the tail pipe? Just asking. Some sort of civil disobedience by citizens might get someone held a few hours (see NYC comptroller, Brad Lander).

I really don’t see myself being able to science anymore if this budget comes to pass. And with all the shit the gopers want to pull over on Americans, science is the least of their worries right now. I feel it is just us who care. Time to find something else I can do.
