Grok eventually found an account called onetallteen which claimed to have been a passenger on the train. Last night that account posted, then quickly deleted, an obviously AI generated image of a train ticket as proof. If it weren’t so grim it would be fucking hilarious.

Not like 6 years ago in Sofia when we were on our way back to our hotel after the infamous 0-6 game. Genuinely intending to call it quits when we heard Robbie Williams’ Angels blaring out from a nightclub above a shopping precinct. 5am finish as I recall.

There was some event going on with local music at a bar between the hotel and the restaurant we’d been at earlier. But having had a 5.45 alarm to fly from Zagreb to Belgrade that morning, middle age and sense took over.

Don’t blame you! We got lucky in the second chance sale. Credit to the FA and Serbian authorities - buses from the city centre to the ground and back meant it was safe as houses. Though most places were closed when we got back so we attacked the minibar in our hotel.

It was. I said to my mate (who was with me when we met in Frankfurt) that it would have been your sort of place. I wouldn’t have chosen to be serenaded by Serbian Air Force jets preparing for their national day fly past next weekend, but you can’t have everything in life.

I was in Belgrade for the England game during the week. Lunch by the River Sava comprising two different types of Cevapi (similar to Kofte), salad, leek croquettes and flatbreads. Washed down with a local white wine and a plum raki to finish. Simple food expertly done. Divine.
