Obviously, I do not abide by the very limited agreement and we have free-flowing contact. But I know of many a foster/adoptive parent from the pits of FB group hell that almost immediately "cancel" the OAA for exceptionally petty reasons.

This. We have open adoption agreements for some of our children. I have all of the power in those and can basically cancel them for anything. And there's no enforcement mechanism whatsoever.

Imagine how bad it already is for queer youth in places like Mississippi or South Dakota or wherever else. Now imagine it's going to get worse.

Our placement worker specifically calls us for LGBTQ youth. Even though our house is full. Even though our house is chaotic. Because there are so few affirming homes, and our chaos is better than hatred. This is in WA, where technically foster homes are supposed to be screened for bigotry.

Don't forget the part where they're also blocking the trans kids from receiving gender affirming care 🫩

That's obviously going to vary a lot by jurisdiction. Our area at least seems to weigh the child's voice a lot.

Note that the foster care discussion (imo) looks a lot different for babies and small kids vs. teens. Not that the same problems can't be present, but there's a lot higher bar for removing older kids and it seems to be the wrong choice less frequently (again, in my opinion and from my experience)

This shit makes me see red. The number of calls we get for teens who are being removed from their home because of hatred from their family is not low. And y'all want to then put them in foster homes that hate them too? Despicable.

*I tend to need to work late and take the late shift for children who wake up, so I get weekend sleep-ins 😂

We haven't had a kitchen in months and when I tell you I MISS cooking. I'm sure I'll repent of that thought once I'm back on the grind of feeding this many people on the regular. But, man, I really do enjoy it.
