Of course, there's a lot of misery. But it is the same misery that is all around us. The trees here are in misery, and the birds are in misery. I don't think they- they sing. They just screech in pain. https://boxd.it/3kI3L

10.11.2025 18:23 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yes a tweet that has ten likes from an account that looks like a bot.
Keep fighting the good fight π«‘
All I am saying is that if I had a platform as large and as influential as yours I would think long and hard about how my tweets come across, to all parties. And I wouldn't spout off because a twerpish leftist riled my pique.
Complacency or Resignation.
What do you think is the bigger battle now?
It feels like you are tilting at windmills, inventing a guy to get mad at. We're currently going through unprecedented times and your tweet comes across as "why was everyone worried about Trump, sandwich guy got off"
Your other work puts it in better context. But that's not how the Internet works.
Again, it's complacency or resignation.
You are fighting the fight against resignation, it's a good and worthy fight. But I don't think it's time has yet come.
I would much rather it framed as despite the efforts of the fascists, our institutions are still standing. Institutions are just people and by chiding people for worrying about fascism you may give someone somewhere permission to not fight as hard to preserve our democracy.
08.11.2025 03:41 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0You have a large and influential platform, and while yes, you have commented on Trump's fascistic inclinations in the past, a tweet like this is completely isolated.
It reads as "nothing to worry about" or worse as chiding people who express their worry about the country they love.
You see it in law firms, universities, media companies all caving to trump, because surely it won't be that bad.
But they're all obeying in advance because it's easier and because so many of us have been too afraid to use the F-word. Keeping our powder dry for when the true fascism emerges
What I don't understand here is your goals or your audience professor Nichols.
The way I see it, if Trump is a fascist threat as you have previously stated, our biggest problems are complacency or Resignation. And I see a lot more problems with complacency.
Paneraβs moderately caffeinated lemonade was loosely associated with 2 deaths before it was taken off market.
This article alone has 4 examples of ChatGPT encouraging young people to commit suicide, and OpenAIβs own public stats estimate over a million users discuss suicide with ChatGPT each week.
I don't even think the people who call the US fascist in all aspects think it is Too Late.
Like who is this for?
Idk, it feels like inventing a guy to get mad at, tilting at windmills.
What is the bigger danger? Complacency or Resignation?
From my perspective, at least, it's complacency
What is the right time to call an administration fascist? Because on Nichols heuristic (once rule of law is dead and free and fair elections are over) it's too late.
07.11.2025 17:17 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0But what is the point in scolding people for calling out what are very clearly fascist tactics. What is meant to be achieved here? Idk to me this reads as "ICE goons fascistically operating above the law can't be called fascist because sandwich guy got off."
07.11.2025 17:15 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0But allowing elections or court proceedings to occur isn't the ultimate test of fascism is it? Surely there are other boxes to be ticked. And if it were, what is the point in holding off calling this administration fascist until they curtail those rights? Surely at that point it would be too late.
07.11.2025 16:49 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I guess what I don't understand is what is the point of scolding people for calling all this fascist? To keep your powder dry for when the "true fascism" emerges? If that true form is predicated on complete control, as Nichols seems to posit, it will be too late anyway.
07.11.2025 06:28 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0The difficulty here is that fascism isn't a governing form, it's not even an ideology really, it's more an aesthetic with some overarching goals. So when naysayers point to our government not acting in the same manner fascist governmentsβwhen in powerβacted, I feel like they're missing the point.
07.11.2025 06:22 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Like Hitler was a fascist before 1932. Trump and his cadre can be fascist even before they control all levers of power
07.11.2025 03:10 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0There are people who say that America is a fascist country. Generally these are folks who say the US has always been fascist and Trump is just the final form. But I don't think those leftists are the usual targets for such chiding. It's more against those who call Trump a fascist as an aberration.
07.11.2025 03:09 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Is the idea here that you have to wait until the night of the long knives before you can call someone a fascist even when they have clear fascist intent?
