Minneapolis video game livestream raises $250K for rent aid during ICE surge Podcasters from MinnMax and Giant Bomb, two video game media outlets, played games for eight hours during their “ICE Out” livestream.

Before the charity stream began, content creators from @minnmax.com and @giantbomb.bsky.social weren't sure what number to aim for — maybe $30,000 or $50,000.

Within 15 minutes, they raised $58,000 for local food pantry VEAP. Within an hour, $100,000.

Ugh! Just heard "Last Christmas" in Target. Already sent to Whamhalla and it's not even Thanksgiving!!

Quick update at 4am: the entire Metro is now in a Winter Storm WARNING for 4-7" of snow and winds up to 40mph. Snow totals could go vary +/- 3".

All in all, the transition from rain to snow looks to be around 7p.

The Wednesday morning commute looks to be quite tough.

Wow, they tell you that rotator cuff surgery is super painful. They lied. It's worse than that. I have a high pain tolerance and the first 48 hours were so damn painful.

Thankfully, it's settled down into the "chronic" pain of healing. I'm able to use my left hand fro typing but that's about it.

I'm sure there are terms and abbreviations I'll use going forward that I haven't explained here, please feel free to comment and ask.

CC - Correlation Coefficient: Rain drops are all generally the same same (correctional coefficient near 1) Hail is more irregularly shaped and will pull the CC down to around .7 or .8 - Tornado thrown debris will be of all shapes and sizes causing a very marked decrease in the CC data. (CC drop)

Radar terminology:

88D - current generation of US/Canadian wx radar

Reflectivity - most common imagery seen depicting precipitation echos.

Velocity - shows the actual motion of the atmosphere

SRM - Storm Relative Motion - shows velocity as it appear if you were looking from the storm

Hodograph (part of a Skew-T) - a technical diagram detailing the state of the atmosphere from the surface to around 75000 feet aloft.

DP (also Td) - Dewpoint, if the atmosphere was cooled to this temperature, the humidity would be 100%.

Advection: movement towards the forecast area:
can be cold air, warm air, or increasing/decreasing moisture.

Vorticity - movement in a certain direction
Helicity - upward rotating motion.

Terminology:

SVR - Severe (weather/thunderstorm)
TOR - Tornado
PDS - Particularly Dangerous Situation

Watch - Conditions are favorable for development of the condition (Severe storms, Tornadoes, etc)

Warning - This is actually occurring and immediate action is necessary.

Common abbreviations in my weather (wx) posts:

Models:

ECMWF (Euro) - European weather model
CMC (Canadian) - model
GFS (US) - US model
GEFS (US) - blend of all the GFS members
NAM (US) - a different US model
HRRR (US) - High Resolution Rapid Refresh model

WX - abbreviation for weather

Summary: The NWS Winter Storm Watch is appropriate - this will be one of the biggest snows of the winter so far.

I'll post an update around 2000 once the new model runs are in and I've had a chance to look them over.

All three models are showing signs of speeding up the system which would bring lower totals area wide. The official NWS forecast is 5-7". I think this is a bit optimistic and I'm looking at 3-5" with a narrow band of 5-7" somewhere. The narrow band will be driven by processes within the storm.

The Euro also keeps the system moving through slower than the US/Canadian models as well.

The differences make a sizeable difference in the amount of snow expected.

As it stands now: the Euro would bring 6-8" of snow across the Metro. The US/Canadian would only give us 4-6".
